If I was to negotiate a no bid (single source) job for a company who has offered to pay me for my time, effort, and loyalty how much should I expect?

The company is going to be paid about 1.2 million. I would say this represents about 10% of their yearly total as far as work completed. Without me they would have had zero shot at getting this contract and they know this. With me involved they know they were going to be the only bid and that they were 100% going to get it. They normally work on small profit margins, but in this case they knew they could bid high. I have known the owners of this company for several years but I wouldn't call them good friends.

How much do you think they will kickback to me?

all kickbacks are illegal. That is why I titled it as that. I am told payment will be in the form of a cashier's check

isn't that up to you? are you asking what the maximum percentage you can demand without being turned down?

depending on how much time you have in this thing, you can ask for 1% to 5% of the deal and they shouldn't blink an eye.

I did not ask them for a kickback. They told me early on I would get something. I am not expecting 6 figures but I would think 10k at the very least. It is not that I put in the time, it is that I got them the job because of my contacts and my pull with the right people including accounts payable.

I do not feel right "asking" for any certain amount. I just do not know what to expect. I know he planned on building it into the quote.

just make sure it can't be proven that you got compensated. or else you'll go down hard.

if you work for the city, county or state or something like that, you could be facing jail time.

why not keep it above board and call it a finder's fee or something similar to that. I realize this involves paying taxes, but then you don't run the risk of either party complaining about a kickback.

Don't know the industry, but I would say something between 1% ($12k) and 5% ($60k) is reasonable. Think of it a commercial real estate brokerage sense, each side (finding broker and listing broker) would get something around 3%, you are acting as both.

I won't get paid until the project is completed and they get paid which should happen around the end of September. I will be happy with anything over 10k. I probably wouldn't accept 60k.

I'll give you a bank account to which you can wire the rest.

I would pay you exactly $0.

If you sue me, I'll tell you what you already know: "Kickbacks are illegal". And guess what? The law is on my side.

I am not the one applying pressure. It was not my idea. They are the ones who want to pay me something. I would have done everything I did whether I get anything or not.

what a dick post

simbac is a perfect example of a person that would be unable to run their own business.

of course they talk big talk, "If I ran a company I'd tell them to f-off, my way or the highway...blah blah blah." but as everyone knows karma is real.
