Definitely a nice deal for the offensively deficient (sometimes) Pads as long as this guy isn't a completely a-hole.

Barrett is one of the hardest workers in the league. He is not an a-hole by all means. Hes a great guy and will be missed in Chicago. The only knock on him is his defense. I wish Barrett well in SD

The entire pitching staff hated this guy, that's why the Cubs practically gave him away for nothing. Hill is far better as a catcher.

I have no problem with him, but the media is eating up the angle of the "embattled Cubs catcher." I never thought he was that much of a clubhouse problem, not that I follow the Cubs closely.

It's called a trade-off. Dump the .256 hitter for defense and harmony in the club house.

Poor trade-off in my opinion. And I can't imagine that trading Barrett is going to get rid of all their clubhouse problems.

yeah because you don't want Barret in the clubhouse after he started a fight and threw the first punch against Zambrano... oh wait, he don't throw ANY punches.

Its too bad, I liked Barrett alot, but thats the business of the game. Gotta keep your "shows signs of brilliance" psychopath pitcher happy.

I hope they get rid of Zambrano too.

Trade shows who is running the team - Pinella. Pinella never liked him. Actually the staff ERA is a run lower in games he doesn't play. As bad as the catchers are, I would've liked to shop him around a little more.

Barrett has just never improved defensively and at this point it seems doubtful he ever will. Catcher is just too important a position defensively to have someone who isn't good back there, especially with a young pitching staff. Now maybe the Pads with the pitchers and vets they have, it won't matter. But the Cubs couldn't afford to have him back there any more. And his offense slumped this year as well, though he will hit. That he can do. Bowen is pretty decent, good plate patience. And the young outfield prospect has a a high ceiling.

Trade that makes sense all the way around as SD needs some offense and they have a vet pitching staff. Cubs needed to make a change, pitchers just weren't comfortable with Barrett.
