Phil Gordans book The Little Green Book is very good.

Daniel Nagranues was also a very informative read

Actally in this day and age, you can get more by checking out some of the free ebooks on the net and just playing for real money to learn the game on the net. Most of the good poker books can be downloading for a few sites for free.

And with espn's coverage of poker, they have made learning how to play great poker from a 3 year lesson down to about 1 month.

Seeing the %'s on TV give you a great idea on how to play the game as well.

But one thing to keep in mind is that you are only seeing maybe 10% of the actual hands at the final table

Well from what I see playing at a B & M is people play out of position way to much. They also have no idea as to how much to bet at a pot. They think betting 15 into a 100 pot is going to do the trick and then wonder why they always get sucked out. Duh.

Harringtons books are also very good.

I buy very few poker books. I go to the book store during lunch and read them. I find that if I read them after I just played the night before they make a lot more sense.

KILL THE LIMPERS.

LOL Yeah right Matt. I wish I sucked as bad as him.

Did he knock you out of a tourney this week?

Like I said Matt books don't do much for helping a player on to WIN. They just give you the ground work on how to play.

Big difference between playng poker and winning at poker.

yeah right what? Gordon is considered a huge joke among ummm everyone. Everyone says he is terrible and is considered a top 5 douchebag at the table, berating all players and even dealers. He is good off the felt though as he does some charity stuff, but he is also worth like tons of money from his software company.

Gordon blows, trust me

Never heard anyone accuse Gordon of being a good poker player. He got lucky and won one of the early WPT events and rode that to success.
Matt is 10x the player Gordon is and as bad as I am would venture to say I would beat Gordon.
Just because someone is on TV a lot, doesn't make them good. The poker world is filled with famous faces that are broke.
Gordon made his money outside the poker world.

The Negraneanu book is "Hold' Em Wisdom for all Players". Its a collection of "tips" and fairly lightweight but an easy read.

I've always found Bob Ciaffiones' books to be well structured and sufficiently thorough to be useful as complete teaching texts. I believe he has one on pot limit/no limit.
