:WTF: Sign of the times , the Orioles at one time were MLB's model franchise , now they can't give the manager job away....this is just another blunder and black eye for the team, the owner has absolutely ruined this team...WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT, it's not like Girardi is the second coming either...the guy had a good year.:missingte

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Joe Girardi turned down an offer to manage the Baltimore Orioles, a decision Thursday that ended the team's decisive effort to secure its top choice for the job.
The Orioles began negotiating with Girardi soon after firing Sam Perlozzo on Monday. The sides appeared headed toward an agreement on Wednesday, but Girardi ultimately decided against getting back in the game at this time.

Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail announced Girardi's decision in a conference call late Thursday afternoon.

Calls to Girardi's agent, Steve Mandel, were not immediately returned.
Girardi made a name for himself last year by guiding the youthful Florida Marlins to a 78-84 record. The team remained in contention for a playoff spot until September, and after the season Girardi became the first person to be voted NL Manager of the Year with a losing record.Later, however, Girardi was fired, the result of an ongoing feud with owner Jeffrey Loria.

Upon firing Perlozzo, the last-place Orioles named bullpen coach Dave Trembley as interim manager. The team hoped to replace him with Girardi, but now must seek another option.

Trembley earned his first win as a big league manager on Wednesday night, when Baltimore ended a nine-game losing streak by beating the San Diego Padres 7-1. It was the Orioles' third win in 16 games.

The guy won NL Manager of the Year last year, can you blame him? I have always been amazed that more guys don't turn down jobs. How the Royals, TB, Rangers and some teams in other sports ever find coaches is beyond me. Why would you ever take the Royals job? Seriously, WTF good can come of it?

good for him...

Ken Rosenthal was saying yesterday, how there is a possible 8-10 better potential coaching positions at season's end.

Seems like the smart move.

The rumor is, he has a back door deal to manage the Yanks next year.

J-Man,

I am a Raider fan so I know exactly how you feel. The Raiders job may be the worst in all of sports when you combine the talent on the team with Al Davis. They have been turned down by innumerable guys over the past few searches. Sean Payton took the job, slept on it and called back the next day to say thanks but no thanks. Davis BEGGED Petrino to take it but he didn't want it. Whisenhunt turned them down last off season. Dennis Green, DENNIS F*ING GREEN, said no thanks to an interview. No sympathy from me brother.

Very true, and a good comparison...lol and when he went back to Art Shell you knew he had just lost it completely.

The one big difference is the Raiders Al Davis was atleast a football man at one time and a winner, he's just so old now he can't run the team...we have a lawyer-owner who turned the franchise over to his sons...it's a joke.

Once Al Davis dies the glory will return...Angelos is a lot younger! I cannot believe how bad a job his family has done with this team....he fired announcer Jon Miller for being critical lol...that just tells you his mentality!

He fired Davey Johnson who got them to the playoffs ... I swear if I were born today I probably wouldn't have ever followed baseball because of the way it is now.

Why doesn't the great Andy McFail hire his good friend Dusty Baker, like he did in Chicago?

Would you want to manage in the same division as the Yanks and Sox, especially with his ties to NYY? He is the front runner whenever Torre retires/fired and would be on a shortlist for any job in the offseason. Hence, I think its a pretty smart move not to take the job and wait while doing some commentary on YES.

Joe G knows his future is in the NYY system. He will either be the Head Coach next yr or This is a little out there, but i could see Girardi being named the new GM when Cashman is let go.
