No, it is not legal right now but they are setting all the groundwork to legalize it. They are comparing it to their startup in the auto industry which slowly and methodically dominated its U.S. counterparts.

Japan does have a thriving Pachinko and Pachislot business which generates about a billion yen in revenue a year.

Pachinko (パチンコ, Pachinko?) is a Japanese gaming device used for amusement and prizes and is related to pinball machines. Although originally strictly mechanical, modern pachinko machines are a cross between a pinball machine and a video slot machine.
The machines are widespread in establishments called "pachinko parlors", which also often feature a small number of slot machines. Pachinko parlors share the reputation of slot machine dens and casinos the world over — garish decoration; over-the-top architecture; a low-hanging haze of cigarette smoke; the constant din of the machines, music, and announcements; and blinding levels of illumination to keep players entranced for hours in their games.

Japanese are video game crazy too. They have way more games and pretty much everything is available to them a good 5 months or so in front of the US.

They love that dance dance revolution and the one where you play the drums. All the music games they are big on.

So they will love the slots with tons of sound effects I would imagine.

I believe Macau (sp?) is the city that will rival Vegas in the far east. Believe its in China.

I think pachinko is where you shoot balls out (like the opening shot in pinball) and you have to get the balls to fall into a slot (like a carnival game)....the machine shoots a shitload of balls and you win balls (not cash)

.....you can redeem the balls for funny little prizes.....

.....and you go to the back and people pay you cash for these crap prizes!

Rob,
I rarely pay attention to the slots, but they had this one called "Jackpot Party" located next to the poker room. It would do this annoying shout out all the time and everyone hated it.
I also think the big Wheel of Fortune is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. The fact people actually sit down and play that shows how dumb Americans are.
