Hey mods- I was hoping you could keep this thread here for a couple or so hours, before moving to the computer section...thanks.

Been experimenting w/ making DVD movies, from .AVI files.

I was wondering if anybody has any tips/recommendations/links on the easiest way to convert w/ the best quality.

I downloaded the most recent UFC 72 event...and was hoping to put it on a DVD...and also make chapters for each fight.

Lots of researching on the topic...and tons of different software...was hoping for a little help, from people who have more experience at this than me.

thanks, data...i've actually been reading that site a lot today.

I tried a program DivxToDvd...converted/burned in a 2 step process...but i wasnt impressed w/ the quality, nor ability to set up chapters (just the default every 5 min. mode)...have you tried it?

i'm d/l the AviToDvd program now

Winavi is by far the best quality and quickest convertor - check it out.

AviToDvd appears to better than DivxToDvd...but still doesn't allow to manually make chapters (just 5 mins intervals)...would really like to menu like:

Chapter 1: Intro
Chapter 2: Fight #1
Chapter 3: Fight #2
etc
etc

not just the generic 5 mins.

gonna check out Winavi, dedge...thanks

Check out "Step 2 Output" tab. There is a "Chapter List" option that allows breaking DVD into chapters by seconds.

Thanks, data...yeah i saw that. I guess i'm looking for the lazy man's version...i noticed on Nero you can fast forward/while watching the clip, to break up chapters.

I'm going to convert using AviToDvd...then set up chapters through Nero...then burn using Nero...I'm guessing that may work, for what i'm looking for.

in nero there should be an option that says make dvd-video, if you have the most up-to-date version

I downloaded this off a .torrent website www.demonoid.com (you need to have a program called utorrent installed to download off their site, it is all free however) but you may be able to find it somewhere else if you google it

ConvertXtoDVD

you can easily convert virtually anything to dvd form and burn it in an easy process, also if you go through the settings part you can set up chapters for however many minutes you want...the last thing i love about it is that if you have multiple videos you are looking to put onto a disc it will put them all on and seperate them in a title screen so you can scroll through like a normal dvd (great for tv shows)...

Just keep in mind that most DVD's hold 4.7 GB's so don't exceed that amount per disc

Use Nero ...

there is no need to convert the file.

1. put mouse over video / make sure DVD is in dropdown box
2.click: Make your own DVD Video
3. Nero Vision pops-up
4.click add video files
5. click next

thats it.

if you are still having problems ...
go to "more" / "video options" / DVD-Video tab/
set the options to automatic.

as long as you have a DivX codec installed (divx.com) Nero is fully automatic.
(as is all DVD burner programs ... no need to convert file beforehand)

if you need more help ... let me know

Yeah...I d/l Nero 7 yesterday..still havent found a crack/keygen that works yet to register it.

But I was figuring their software would have a converter by now...thanks for the detailed instructions.

I'm hoping Nero's converter is quicker, as its been taking AviToDvd about 4 hours to convert...and i thought i have a quick processor? lol.
