indians flat out steal the game. martinez, the only player worth a damn hitting wise for the tribe right now, comes through with a monster blast. then borowski gets a wacky double play to end the game and get out of massive trouble.

Hey Prod, couple questions/comments for you since your in CLE.

Although i havent been watching every second of Tribe games, I havent seen Hafner get a hit/hit a ball solid in over a month. This guy is playing terrible and an automatic out every time he steps up nowadays. Pinch hit tonight, popped out. Pinch hit the other night, Grounded into DP.

Secondly, do you ever watch Bruce Drennan's show on SPO at night? This guy is a clown. I may call in and bash him one night when im hammered. Actually, have tried that, but didnt get through.

hafner is too good a hitter to slump an entire season. but right now, he is an absolute mess. that has to concern the indians. as you know, theyve given him some extra offdays to try and snap out of it but that hasnt worked either. hes not even hitting balls hard and that might be the most alarming part of it. with the way detroit is mashing the ball, the indians need hafner to snap out of this major slump somehow, otherwise the tigers will run away with the division. look at what detroit did to washington. and now in the next series, the indians have been baffled by two mediocre nats pitchers. sizemore is playing a fantastic centerfield but hes not hitting the ball all that well either. right now martinez is flat out carrying them. indians need to get everyone hot at once but they esp need hafner, otherwise they arent making the playoffs.

as for drennan- hes a clown. then again, all media in cleveland are flat out horrible. its a joke quite honestly. the best media member in ohio is terry pluto from the akron beacon journal. his stuff is fantastic. but the print and broadcast media in cleveland are a joke. sad that the only people who know what theyre talking about are 45 minutes south down in akron.

I feel that the Indians are playing down to their competition this year. Case in point is the Nats and the Royals just off the top of my head. I guess a big + for the Indians is that they are having success right now with Hafner, a big producer, struggling mightily at the plate. I agree though, he needs to snap out of the funk or Detroit will run away soon....But, in the end does it really matter with our bullpen? Borowski almost blew another one tonight and they are almost as unreliable as any pen in the league.

borowski doesnt bother me (although he damn near shit all over himself tonight). its the setup men that are horrible. roberto hernandez was one of shapiro's worst signing ever. never understood it before the season. certainly didnt understand it as the season went along. fernando cabrera has been a train wreck too. they are relying on unproven guys like tom mastny to hold leads and thats a recipe for disaster. betancourt has been lights out but thats about it. like you said, on one hand its encouraging that the indians are still in a virtual tie for 1st with detroit and they still arent getting great offensive production. but really, detroit is just a better team than cleveland top to bottom. sabathia and carmona are capable of shutting detroit down but i dont really trust the starters/relievers in games involving cleveland's 3rd/4th/5th starters.

I agree middle relievers are terrible. It's awful when they bring in Fultz out of the pen, the guy really has no business being in the bigs right now. I'm definitely a believer in Carmona's stuff, and hopefully he will continue to be a surprise the rest of the year.

Speaking of pitching, Westbrook makes his return tomorrow and is hung at a -160 favorite.
