Greatest math joke/trick I have ever seen

I have always been able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide as fast anyone I knew.

About 10 years ago I was in a bar and a buddy said a guy at the front of the bar wanted to show me a math problem that a 5th grader could figure out but I would get wrong. He wanted to bet me 10-1 odds, $10 to win $100 so I said yes as long as this was legit.

He said he had been doing this for years and never seen anyone get it right. I lost the bet as I answered wrong. I tried this on over 100 people in my life and have only seen 1 guy get it right.

Not sure if this can be done on the computer and I imagine everyone will say they got it right but here it is. Simply add these numbers up IN YOUR HEAD as you go along down the page. Try to do this reasonably fast.

It's 4,100
but
99% of the people answer 5,000.

For some odd reason the guy told me that everyone gets to 4,090 plus 10 and your brain cant add it right and it sees 5,000. I noticed the same thing.

Now 1 major thing is you are suppose to take each number and right it down the way I did and cover the numbers up with a piece of paper and move the paper down the page as the person adds the numbers up out loud as you go along down the page. Try it on someone that way and I guarantee you they will say 5,000.

Like I said guys you have to cover up the question and go down a piece paper exposing each number one by one after the person adds it to the previous one. Make them say the answers out loud.

Have someone test this on another and come back here with what they say. Make them do it semi fast.

For some jackass reason I got 4500 the first time, but it seemed funny.

So I did it again, and got 5000 the second time.
