feel very good about this set of games. we'll see how it goes.

texas (+175)
chicago cubs under 9 (+105)
cleveland (-170)

putting my money where my mouth is with texas (or more specifically, against kenny rogers). this line is silly for the pitching matchup. this is the kind of number id expect detroit to be laying with bonderman/verlander against one of the texas 3/4/5 mutant starters. but ill go so far as to say the better pitcher is the dog here. of course, detroit is the better team. and millwood will have his hands full with the potent detroit lineup. but really feel like millwood can limit the tigers to 3 or less.

zambrano has been absolutely lights out since getting in the dugout brawl. the basis of this under bet is simple. betting a hot pitcher to shut down a colorado lineup that hasnt done much the last 4 or 5 games. takes away some 9th inning rallies and the rocks are struggling to score.

right now, carmona and sabathia are carrying the indians. the back part of the rotation is shaky at best but the cleveland 1/2 punch is nails. carmona has allowed more than 3 runs just once in his last 11 starts. really dont see oakland getting past that plateau against him. they have the kind of lineup that is tailor-made for his ground ball style of pitching.

"But I'll go to say the better pitcher is the dog"

I don't really know about that. Rogers made a very impressive start against the Braves last week and career numbers show that, that one start was no fluke. Millwood on the season has an era of 7.31. Even a 6.61 in his last 3 outings. You call him better than Kenny Rogers. Yikes. Millwood 0-3 on the road never to receive a win. Bad spot against a good Tigers club that won't get swept by the Rangers.

i stand behind my statement that millwood is the better pitcher. he isn't on the better team nor does he have the better 2007 stats. but yes, i feel he is better than rogers. as far as detroit 'wont get swept by the rangers' .... -- why not? teams get swept all the time. even good ones.

Well best of luck. I am not arguing with you, I was just trying to see where you were coming from. I'm not on either side, just thought that the best bet would be Tigers -1.5 for about even juice. GL though.

Prodigy,
Thanks for the selections. I noticed that a lot of the Rangers have decent numbers against Rogers, as well. It seems Rogers does a lot better at home, though. You really feel confident Millwood can limit Detroit to 3 runs or less? I'm going with the over here. GL today.

surprised i missed this one in my original post. didnt realize cain was pitching today. love the price and matchup. maddux throwing for san diego makes the runline very generous.

san francisco (-1.5) (+180)

my thoughts on cain are well known. very underrated pitcher who is far better than his record. with any type of run support, he could have a flip flopped record and thats not hyperbole. frisco/pads have played a low scoring series so far but giants have a weird way of having higher scoring games on the tail end of a series when they play in the afternoon. thus, im not too worried about a one run win. i think the giants take this game by 2 or 3.

I'm not sure why anyone is taken aback at the thought that Millwood is better than Rogers. He has a better career ERA, better career WHIP, and only a slightly career worse W/L record and is in his 11th year as opposed to Rogers' 19th year. They're very similar. I wouldn't put much stock into what Rogers did against the Braves. This is the AL, and the Braves haven't done anything against LHP all year.

If Kevin Millwood is the better pitcher between he and Kenny Rogers then I'd prefer to sleep with Rosie O'Donnell over Charlize Theiren.

"Millwood will hold the Tigers to three or less"
You're kidding right? This whole thread is a prank, right?

The price may be good and the Rangers way win but not because of those statements.

Kevin Millwood is amongst the biggest stiffs in the game, bar none.

Career numbers don't mean much when wagering on a game- current form does. The fact is, Millwood has been terrible this year. People want to give him credit for only giving up 3 and 4 runs respectively to NL teams. Gimme a break. Comparing what stage they are in their career is also an argument that doesn't hold much weight. There are plenty of older pitchers (e.g. maddox, clemens, smoltz, etc.) that are performing much better than their younger counterparts. I agree, I'm not going to give Rogers much credit for shutting down the Braves, but I would much rather have him pitching for a team I am wagering on than Millwood. GL.
