According to The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Jose Mesa has taken over for struggling RHP Geoff Geary as a late-inning option out of the bullpen for Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. Mesa, released two weeks ago by the Detroit Tigers and signed as a free agent by the Phillies, is the Phillies' all-time leader with 111 saves. Asked if he thinks the 41-year-old Mesa can help in the new role, Manuel said, "We're going to find out because I'm going to put him in some tight spots. I like his experience, and I've known him a long time. His arm is sound, and his velocity is getting better."
