Is this anymore unrealistic/unlikely to be successfull than starting a business that requires huge capital, lots of sweat, and still faces a huge risk/failure and most will never even attempt to get off the ground because of all the probelms you have to face?
Not saying this is possible but what makes it anymore impossibile than some of the other ideas thrown around here lately. Don't get me wrong I am all for the moneymaking threads and for the guy with hopes and dreams but why is it that poker (or even sports betting), if given the proper commitment isn't as likely as say opening a sandwich shop?
Been playing for about 3 weeks now and started out a complete beginner and still have my orginial deposit and have made about $500 profit. The first 2 weeks was a feeling out process. Yesterday the lite bulb a came on a little for me and I feel that maybe $10-15 an hour (which is 20 minutes at 3 tables or $30-45 for a real hour) is feasbile and a very safe estimate. I have won 5 of the past 6 days I have played. If you took the time and effort and spent the money that you would into a new business and did it with poker than could it be done?
Not at all trying to sound cocky but trying to have a gambling discussion at this site that seems to have more people focusing latley on making money doing anything other than gambling (LOL). $200 a day is 70k a year. Doesnt seem like it but when you look at it that way it doesn't seem out of the question and I can promise you that any new business owner working 3-5 hours a day would be happy to make 50k+ a year.
This is why I think beating poker maybe attainable:
1) the whole online thing- more hands per hour and decent software that helps your bottom line. There is less variance when you are seeing 500 hands a day or so that you could have a winning day alot easier than playing at a casino.
2) If you play at the right levels and don't get greedy you can probaly succeed. The 2 times I went up I have lost. Staying at the right level is huge.
3) 100% beleive in the tight aggressive style. Discipline at online poker means everything. Most don't know your table image also if you are jumping around and dont have the stats on you. If you wait around till you have the edge you should eventually win big pots. Something I have learned is the old saying win big pots, lose small pots. Great statement (IMO).
I have a few more thoughts and ideas but would like to hear from others.
Like I said trying to get back to dreaming of beating gambling consistently to make some extra money than worrying about making sandwiches (LOL). One thing though is the goverment most likely won't mess with your restaurant.
