You're kidding, right? He's never been dominant, never had a WS save, and has usually held onto his closer job by a thread. A 3.58 ERA for a closer is not impressive at all. Got all he could out of his ability, but NO chance for Cooperstown.
Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner.
He never dominated the closer position, Hoffman and Mo did.
If you elect Wick to the HoF, than you must elect Roger McDowell or Ted Abernathy, because they had similar careers.
Reminds me - I once heard Peter Jacobsen, the PGA tour player, asked what chance did Michael Jordan had of making it to the PGA tour. His reply: "Michael Jordan will be playing on the PGA Tour when I'm playing center for the Chicago Bulls."
how many closers are in the HOF? uhm... let me think... there's... uhm... oh... no... not him... uh... hmmmmmm... Rollie Fingers, Dennis Eckersley, and Bruce Sutter. Hoffman and Rivera will probably both make it. Goose Gossage and Lee Smith inching closer ever year... with only 3 closers in and MAYBE 4 more on their way... how can you make a case for bob wickman???
