over Sheffield, Granderson, many others? I guess being a bad outfielder in a large market pays off.

Remy was talking about this in yesterdays Red Sox broadcast. Not Manny specifically, but how the all-star voting can be a popularity contest with fans voting for past all stars rather than voting for who had a 1st half good season.

He wasn't voted in was he? I thought only the starters are voted in

I guess my point is is if we are awarding future hall of famers for past accomplishments, then put Sammy Sosa on the team...shoot, Sosa probably deserves it more than Manny this year

One of the least deserving All Stars this year, hands down.

And could they have possibly left off Orlando Cabrera? Unreal.

You are correct...

he was actually voted in, by the players.

MLB General Managers should be doing the voting for the reserves.

"Elsewhere, Mark Buehrle and Andy Pettitte have more compelling All-Star cases than Josh Beckett. That's a reflection of the fact that people within the game still pay far too much attention to pitcher wins and losses. "

because this game is an exhibition game, and it is nothing but a popularity contest, obviously the fact that o. cabrera and e. renteria didnt make it shows it is not judged on numbers

On their website.
I think it was written in FOX style. We know it is stupid, but people will respond.

Manny is there because he is and has been a superstar since 1995, but if you want Adam Lind instead of Manny.

Might I suggest going out your back door and watching your grass grow.

Wouldn't give it a second thought if Manny didn't make squad with subpar year but he may bring some entertainment to game which is all this silly spectacle is anyway. But seriously folks, Manny is a better outfielder than people give him credit for. He now knows how to play wall and gets the ball in very quickly to 2nd base, not a bad arm either. Just that his errors are comical and replayed all week.

Not Pettite, but if someone made an argument for Buerhle over Beckett I wouldn't argue with them. He's got a better ERA, identical WHIP, two complete games (none for Beckett), he's thrown a no-no ... it's not his fault his team doesn't score for him or hold the lead whenever he leaves a game.

Just scanning the lineups they don't seem to be as impressive as in years past, either over the hill aging stars or less than name brand seems to be the case this year...not the most appealing time for MLB.
