Thinking more and more about him snubbing Chris Young for the All-Star game, has left me with the following conclusion. LaRussa is an egotistical bastard.

First of all, Young beat LaRussa's Cards in the playoffs last yr (the one game SD won). 3 starting pitchers have dominated this yr in the N.L. (Penny, Peavy, and Youg). Young has an ERA barely over 2, a batting avg against under .200, shut-out the Red Sox (the necessary high-profile win), has flirted with mulitple no-hitters.

Bottom line: Brian Fuentes had to have been LaRussa's last choice. LaRussa needs to fulfill his fat ego by having another lefty since he is the "genius" who invented having 7 pitchers get the final 7 outs of a game with situational match-ups. What a joke! So he can stroll out to the mound in the 6th inning to get Fuentes to pitch to Ortiz and people can talk about what an intellect he is. The fact is, LaRussa is a good manager, but far from a genius. And his ego got the better of this decision.

Fuck LaRussa.

We are on the same page on this one whor. He is trying to put across a point here by putting a bum like Feuntes on the team and leaving a deserving guy like Young off of it. You didn't mention the solid ratio of K/BB ratio of 90/36. Hopefully the fans vote him in...

i agree he overmanages games most of the time but prior to the last couple
games fuentes had pretty good stats. i see no problem with him making the roster. he will overuse the bullpen but if the nl has the lead going into the late stages and your team plays in the nl you will at least know he will get the best match-up for them. TLR is the most prepared manager in baseball
the cards tracking of players is the best in the league.

im sure young will make the squad anyway via fan vote.

If Chris Carpenter was 8-3 with a 2.14 ERA, 90 K's, 36 walks, and 3 HR's allowed in 16 starts, do you think for one second he wouldn't be on the team?

of course he would be the manager of the team is his manager. i don't think its a personal attack on young. thats silly. you could make a case for izzy but he didn't fit what they were looking for apparently. like i said young will be there in the end so it doesn't really matter. go NL.

Talking about pitchers. Gorzy and Snell. Snell #5 ERA and Gorzy #8. Yet Snell has no chance and Gorzy has to be out Young. Yet Cole Hamels makes it with a 3.87 ERA. Snells got an ERA almost a whole run lower, 11 less home runs, and 12 less hits. This all-star game is terrible. You talk about bad pitching selections.. have you seen short stop. Rentaria, Rollins, and Ramirez didn't make it over Hardy and Reyes. All 3 of those who didn't make it after better than Hardy and Reyes, no lie.

Tony LaRussa is a Hall of Fame Manager: Should Win Manager of the Year

October 18, 2011:

When Adam Wainwright went down for the St. Louis Cardinals, I gave the division to the Milwaukee Brewers. Tony LaRussa had something else in mind. When Albert Pujols went down, I once again predicted the Cardinals to not make the playoffs. Tony LaRussa had something else in mind. When the Cardinals were 7 games down with only a few weeks left, I had my playoffs already predicted out, and once again Tony LaRussa had something else in mind.

The St. Louis Cardinals should not be in the World Series but they are. They are because Tony LaRussa is a hall of fame manager and the Cardinals should bow down to this guy and give him basically whatever he wants in terms of a new contract. LaRussa’s ability to push all the right buttons at the right times is stunning, and his ability to know when to start who at which base is just fun to watch for any baseball fan. There isn’ta better manager in all of baseball right now, and LaRussa will easily take his talents to Cooperstown when it’s all said and done.

The one thing I’ve never understood is the Cardinal fan base bashing LaRussa all over social media. Seriously- how do the fans not know what they have? Speaking as a Cubs’ fan, I WISH the Cubs had a manager like Tony LaRussa. Instead we get the incompetent Mike Quade- try that one on for size St. Louis. I don’t really want to hear anymore LaRussa bashing from the fanbase because it was LaRussa’s vision, and ability to keep everyone believing…everyone playing hard in the face of the scrutiny…it was LaRussa who led this team to the World Series. Without him? You’re watching October baseball from the couch with everyone involved with the Chicago Cubs.
