Pardoning Scooter Libby, who was found guilty of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to investigators, with over 18 months left in his term! Usually these political scumbags save all their pardons for their 11th hour, but apparently Bush realizes his presidency is totally in the tank and he may as well do whatever he wants, public opinion be damned. :monsters-

Rather it be Scooter Libby than Mark Rich or some P.R. terrorists who killed a cop.

I don't have a problem with the pardon, I have a problem with laws and fines and sentences fitting their crimes...the entire system is messed up in so many ways....even the Paris Hilton case was a complete farce.

the 3 strike rule when someone steals a candy bar and does serious time...the kid in Ga having consensual oral sex and getting a long prison sentence....there's just no logic anymore.

Agree 1000%...similar crimes should have similar sentences. Way too much leeway....you've got child rapists in Vermont getting probation...Unreal.

The merits of one president's pardon versus another are really for another thread, but if Marc Rich was cronyism to a degree, pardoning your veep's chief of staff reeks of it.

Crimes were very comparable:missingte Cronyism? Who's money helped build the Clinton library and massage parlor? <!-- / message -->

This played out exactly as I figured. Not only does Cheney get off scot free and unquestioned, but now Scooter gets the proverbial slap on the wrist. What a fuqqin joke! This is the gov that we support and there are so many here and everywhere that would fight to the death for these elitist crooks! That goes for both parties.

just a move to try to appease the base and attempt to put a stop to the bleeding known as his 2nd presidency.

Bush did the same thing every other president has done. Don't act like just this administration has done this.

Well that trial and investigation turned out to be a good use of tax payer money.

Clinton gave a few people pardons after they made huge donations for his library project. For a Clinton pardon, the price was negociable, and fell between $250,000 and $1,000,000 (in the form of a donation, of course).

LOL...wasn't it? And the BIG winners were the Golden Couple, Mr. and Mrs. Valerie Plame, who get their dinner checks picked up for the rest of their lives as they stumble into Vanity Fair photoshoots.

Some of you guys make me laugh.

Are people really reacting like this to a presidential "pardon" (commuting sentence)?

Every president does this and they occasionally do it to people who are convicted of killing people and drug dealers. This guy is guilty of lying and obstructing justice. Big deal. That happens every day and people are not sentenced like he was.

You think this was bad? wait till his term is over, then you will see some real criminals pardoned.

Pardon or commuted sentence, who cares! Bottom line he does no prison time and he retires rich and hangs out with rich retired repubs now. Once again you buy time and someone inside will figure a way out. Libby suffered embarrassment for a while and thats about it. Meanwhile Cheney still has not faced any questions regarding this fiasco. Incredible.
