Looking to hook my buddy and his wife up with surround sound (no dvd needed) for their 50 in Samsung DLP TV for their open house..

I don't want to shell out over $500..

Anybody have any recommendations?

Been looking at Target, Best Buy and Circuit CIty but opinions from owners would work out better

Thanks in advance

My only advice is to buy component instead of set styled. When money is no object the reciever and the speakers are a seperate deal, so you want to go that route that if you can. Get stuff that is meant to do it's job well.

From best buy I would go with:
Yamaha - 500W 5.1-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver RX-V361BL
Surround sound decoders include Dolby Digital, DTS and Pro Logic II; DTS; Neural Surround

199.99

Along with

Yamaha - 5.1-Ch. Surround Sound Home Theater Speaker System NS-P1600
Center-channel speaker and 4 satellite speakers; 100W powered subwoofer; YST and QD-Bass technology

Our Price: $199.99

or

JBL - 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System w/100W Subwoofer SCS145.5S
6-piece system includes 4 satellite speakers, center-channel speaker and 100W powered subwoofer

299.99

FWIW, I have a Yahama reciever and its been incredible. I couldnt be happier with it.

I dont get how its 7.1?!

LR and Center Front - 3

LR and Center Back -3

.1 bass

Where does the 7th go?! Never heard of it. Dont doubt it, just not familiar with it.

I'm starting to feel so out of it with LR and center front and 2 back.

Oh I see it now. I looked it up. You lose the back center and you go side left and side right.

That is so awesome, I want that!
