Just one big play for today....
5 STAR: (905) PHILADELPHIA (-$121) over Houston
(Listing Hamels only)
(Risking $605 to win $500)
Jim Feist
My free pick of the day is the game between (907) MIL Brewers and (908) PIT Pirates. Take "(908) PIT Pirates". Ian Snell has stepped up as a young ace, with the Pirates going 4-1 his last 5 starts. Snell has a strong 88-32 K/BB ratio and a 2.90 ERA. The young hurler has owned Milwaukee in his career, with a 3-0 mark and a 3.86 ERA against them. He's fanned 22 Brewers in 21 innings. Milwaukee starter Claudio Vargas has a good record, but that won't continue the way he's pitching: A 5.63 ERA his last three starts. Play the Pirates!
Dave Cokin
My free pick of the day is the game between (925) CLE Indians and (926) DET Tigers. Take "(925) CLE Indians". Dave had a huge Tuesday night on the diamond. He won his sixth straight TOP LEVEL side with the Reds, and Dave's special $10 Supertotal got home in the Angels-Rangers contest. Dave has another dynamite offer for the holiday, and this one's FREE at 1-888-389-7223. Be sure to take full advantage!... "Not much to choose between Jake Westbrook and Kenny Rogers as the Indians battle the Tigers again. Both veteran starters have rolled off the DL in terrific form. But Cleveland is catching a nice price in this spot, and the Indians are on a major roll right now. Excellent team value is the catalyst that makes the Indians my Bonus Play once again tonight."
Guaranteed Pick: Larry Ness
Game: Minnesota Twins at New York Yankees Jul 4 2007 1:05PM
Prediction: Minnesota Twins
Reason: Mike Mussina and Johan Santana square off this afternoon at Yankee Stadium. Mussina (4-5, 4.63 ERA) is 10-0 with a 2.82 ERA in 13 home starts against the Twins. He's 20-5 with a 3.14 ERA in 29 career starts against them BUT he's 0-3 with a 5.84 ERA in his last five. He's also lost two playoff starts while opposing Santana. Santana is a modest 2-0 with a 2.49 ERA in four starts against the Yankees, not including his 1-1 mark with a 3.20 ERA in four playoff outings. However, Santana is putting together his best stretch of the season, going 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA in his last four outings (team is 4-0). Santana has won three straight starts on the road, where he's 6-2 in nine starts with a 1.77 ERA, the second-best mark in the AL. Mussina has also pitched well lately, going 2-2 with a 2.56 ERA in his last five starts. However, the team is minus-$751 in his starts in 2007, ranking him 229th among 236 starting pitchers. While admittedly most of New York's trouble vs left-handers has come away from Yankee Stadium, the fact remains that the Yankees are 9-13 (minus-$1,060) vs lefties this season and in Santana, face MLB's best left-hander! Daytime Delight on the Min Twins.
Larry Ness' Weekly Wipeout Winner (13-4 run since May 6!)
My Weekly Wipeout Winner is on the Det Tigers at 7:05 ET. The Indians (51-32) have won six straight and extended their lead over the Tigers in the AL Central to three games Tuesday with a 5-4 win in 11 innings. However, Cleveland will have to get past Kenny Rogers tonight. The Tigers went 24-9 in Rogers' regular season starts last year and at plus-$1,363, Rogers was the third-biggest 'moneymaker' among starters in 2006. Rogers then went 3-0 in the postseason, without allowing a run! Rogers already appears to be in midseason form after missing three months following the removal of a blood clot in his throwing shoulder. He had off-season surgery but the 42-year-old has shown no signs of wear in winning his first two starts, conceding just one run and six hits in 12 innings while walking only one batter (0.75 ERA). Cleveland will counter with Jake Westbrook. Westbrook has made just four road starts this year, posting an ERA of 9.15. In three starts vs Detroit in '06, Westbrook allowed 28 hits and 17 ERs in 18.1 innings for an 8.35 ERA. Cleveland's winning streak gets snapped tonight. Weekly Wipeout Winner on the Det Tigers.
Good Luck...Larry
Big Al's 3-Game Package with 2 Underdogs!
Our 3 selections include Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Cleveland.
Atlanta -- At 9:10pm our selection is on the Atlanta Braves. Dodger lefthander Mark Hendrickson apparently took the month of June off from starting and pitched only in relief. His last start was on May 31, and Hendrickson had been so horrible over his last five starts of the month (0-3 with a 7.19 ERA ) that beginning in June, Los Angeles thought better of having the 6 foot, 9 inch veteran in the rotation and relegated him to the bullpen for all of last month. But some really bad performances from guys like Hong-Chih Kuo have led to Hendrickson's reinstatement, and we will have to see whether it is for good, or only for the month of July! I look for him to get bombed tonight. Take Atlanta.
Cleveland -- At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Cleveland Indians. Yes, Kenny Rogers has been great, but it's too tough for me to pass up taking the Indians as an underdog. Detroit is a poor 5-11 at home this year vs. division rivals (including 0-4 vs. the Tribe), and Westbrook has been solid since coming off the Disabled List (4 runs in his last 14 innings). Take Cleveland.
Pittsburgh -- At 4:05 pm, our selection is on the Pittsburgh Pirates over Milwaukee, as the Bucs have the MUCH BETTER pitcher on the hill today. I was surprised that Ian Snell did not make the All-Star team. And if there was any justice in the world, Snell would have been chosen as the Pirates' representative rather than Freddy Sanchez. Snell's ERA this year is 2.90 and his WHIP is 1.16, while Claudio Vargas comes into this game with a 4.29 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. The Pirates have never lost to Milwaukee with Snell on the mound (3-0, 1.80 ERA), and they'll get another victory this afternoon. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

3. Mariners -111
4. Mariners vs. Royals Under 9
Guaranteed Pick: Ben Burns
Game: Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates Jul 4 2007 4:05PM
Prediction: under
Reason: I'm playing on Pittsburgh and Milwaukee to finish UNDER the total. Last night's game slippled beneath the total and I'm expecting to see a pitcher's duel this afternoon. Vargas is 6-1 with a respectable 4.10 ERA. In his most recent road start, Vargas allowed just two earned runs through six complete innings at Minnesota. That gave him a 3.90 ERA on the road for the season. He's also been better during the afternoon than he has been at night, going 2-0 while holding opposing hitters to a .234 batting average. Additionally, Vargas has always dominated the Pirates. Indeed, after blanking them through six innings this May, Vargas is now 4-0 with a miniscule 1.60 ERA and 0.992 WHIP vs. the Pirates. Not to be outdone, his opponent, Ian Snell is 3-0 with an awesome 1.80 ERA and 0.882 WHIP in three starts vs. the Brewers. Snell outdueled Capuano (twice) and Sheets in those three starts, all of which came last season. That should spell trouble for Milwaukee hitters, as Snell has been even better this season, particularly at home. In eight home starts, Snell has averaged seven complete innings per start while going 5-2 with a stingy 2.26 ERA and 1.132 WHIP. Its also worth noting that Snell has limited opposing hitters to a mere .208 batting average in his five daytime starts. Not surprisingly, Snell has seen the UNDER go a profitable 10-5-1 for the season. Look for both pitchers to continue their success against today's opponent as the final score stays beneath the total and the UNDER improves to 8-2-1 when the Pirates played at home with a line in the +100 to -125 range. *1st Half TOY

The Diamondbacks are receiving solid value today as a road underdog. Arizona is 7-1 in their last 8 games against the NL Central Division after a nice win over St. Louis last night. The Cardinals are just 1-7 in their last 8 games as a favorite. St. Louis is 8-17 in their last 25 versus a team that features a winning record like the Diamondbacks. The Cardinals have only seemed to be able to put away bad teams. Arizona is one of the top teams in all of baseball right now. Bet the Diamondbacks to win Wednesday.
