I never did as a kid (never even heard of them) but ever since I seen something on the news about 10 years ago I have had a few in every home.

Don't know of anyone that has died from them but still scares me a little. In fact I have never even heard of one going off and alerting others.

You guys have one and if so have they ever went off?

Vitas Geruliatis died from this ...what a terrible fluke way to die!

I always worry about this when I stay in cheap motels...We had a family here in Ocean City on vacation, all die last year from this....I believe this can only occur when a heater malfunctions.

I have one combo smoke/carbon on each of the three floors in my home. They cost $39 but could save your life.

I don't need one for the type of heating system I have...atleast that's what I was told ( I looked into it).....I think this is only a problem with older units...maybe someone can confirm this.

Just a terrible way to die...you have no chance.

i don't believe that to be true but I could be totally wrong. I just bought a home that was built in 1998 and it is equipped with 5 of them throught the home.

I know it is a million to one shot but I would think about getting one as this is one lottery you wouldn't want to win.

Yea if you have to die, sure...but when you re 40 like the tennis player was with his whole life still ahead...it had to suck, waking up in heaven because some gas seeped into your room.

If you don't have an oil furnace, how would your house become filled with CO1?

As mean as this may sound, I have to laugh every year when I hear how some family attempts to heat their home with the BBQ.

Carbon monoxide is much heavier than air and so the monitor should ideally be placed low on the wall, whereas the smoke detector should ideally be placed near the ceiling.

CO monitor not necessary for all electrical heating.

I have a battery operated one. At home it's laying on a counter.

I pack it and take it on trips.

That is a great idea... When I was away last week staying in a cheap motel it crossed my mind...I'm pretty sure this is just a potential hazard when a heater is involved thought, correct?

I dont have one. If there is any present in my breating air I just want to make sure I do a good job sucking in a lot of it while I am asleep.

In all seriousness though, I have never even heard of this.

Really me neither until about 10 years ago and I seen some sad stories on the local news about families that died from this. Now I make sure my home is fully equiped with them.

Look into it and you will be a tad surprised. I don't know why but dying that way seems worse to me than any other, when in reality it would cleraly be the best way to go.

Thats what I'm thinking. I have no idea why it crossed my mind, I think I have a lot of years in front of me (potentially anyways) I mean it has car crash, randomly getting shot, dying of a heart attack or any other complication, plane crash etc etc has all that stuff beat by a mile.
