It was announce about 1 hour ago that today there were 1250 names to play today on day 1A. Now there are 4 days of action, so multiply by 4 and get 5000. But also, registration is still open, so day 1D will probably have well over 2000 players as might day 1C.

First player out is Matt Jansen. He had pocket aces with the ace of hearts.

Flop comes JH 10H 5H

Both players bet it until all in and the other guy turns over KH QH.

That cuts the nine of hearts out of the winning hands for Jansen and he is eliminated when no more hearts show up

Was wondering how many would enter in '07. Also wondering what would happen to those guys who paid the 10K last year or two, and didnt cash. A lot wont return. But satellite entries are up, so we'll see.

Oh, and one other thing. Recent popularity brought out LOTS of competition from other new tournaments that are either easier, fit the players calender or geographics, or are cheaper to enter.

I think days 1b and 1c will have more than today's 1250, but day 1d will have significantly less....everyone wants that day off

UPDATE from cardplayer:
Looking like around 6,000 entrants.

UPDATE: Officially, 159 tables were seated, making the Day 1A total entrants somewhere between 1430 and 1590. Official count soon.

Day 1B: Over 1,500 Entrants

11:00 AM Totals
With Day 1B of the World Series Main Event falling on a Saturday, it was expected that this would be the biggest Day One field. The preliminary list released by the WSOP staff showed 1515 registrations at 11 AM. Registration will remain open until the end of the first level at approximately 2 PM.

That would be nice to be at right around 3k after today. I would be looking good and still have a shot at under 6k also. Thanks for the update

Not so according to the WSOP.com site...

LAS VEGAS – July 6, 2007 – Poker enthusiasts from around the globe descended on the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino today for the first of four start dates at the World Series of Poker Main Event.

A total of 1,287 players kicked off the first day’s play. Thousands more already have paid the $10,000 buy-in for the No-Limit Texas Hold’em Championship, commonly referred to as the Main Event. Registration remains open until July 9 at 2 p.m., after which official participation and prize money numbers for the 38th Annual World Series of Poker presented by Milwaukee’s Best Light will be available.

yeah they started with 1287 at the gun but there was a few hundred more to register inside the 1st 2 hours...those reports on pokerpages, wsop.com, and cardplayer all vary so much...
