Ichiro 'could' still reach 3000 hits..6.5 yrs into his MLB career he's halfway there

Remember he didn't start his MLB career til age 27.

Just playing 6.5 years in MLB, he's at 1,479 !

I think Ichiro will play past age 40, he's already boasted that he will pitch after he 'retires' from being a regular...at his body weight, he should be durable enough to play at near the same level til age 40...like a Paul Molitor, he could still be going strong very late in his career.

3,000 hits- very possible! Had he played his entire career over here he would have had a great chance at catching Rose.

I bet the Yanks wish they had kept that Damon money now for Ichiro, they might just buy him anyway and slide Johnny down....he has Yankees written all over him....talk about a rock star following, in New York Ichiro would be God.

very true, I would love to see him as a Met over a Yank, any day!

hopefully he stays put.

what do you think about his 3000 hit chances though? remarkable to even think he could have a shot .

Has a great chance for 3000 if he stays healthy and continues to lead off...he is a very remarkable athlete...

You aint kidding!

BTW- Paul Molitor had over 1,500 hits after age 33, so it is very possible...

I estimate his chances at about 25-30% right now....one bad season or an injury and it would be almost impossible.

I watch the Mariners quite often, Ichiro is a great player. Due to his style and location, he doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves. Great defensive player as well. I could see him playing at this level for a long time, with a realistic shot at 3000. I hope the Yankees sign him.

Ichiro is a freak of nature, but 3000+ is going to be tough. He gets a lot of those slap infield hits .. if age starts slowing him down in the mid-30's it's going to hurt his chances big time. Maybe he's a Japanase version of Rickey Henderson and won't lose a step ... guess time will tell.

Just remember what Molitor did, same kind of slap hitter with speed, just from the right side...and NOBODY would have expected injury prone Molitor to make it, when he was 33.
