Do you think you can lose weight simply by eating right and doing nothing more than 1/2 hour of stretching and 250 push ups and sit ups each day.

They would be done by doing 10 push ups , roll over and do 10 sit ups , roll over and do 10 push ups , etc... etc.. etc...

Maybe mix in a 45 minute walk at the end.

This is a 44 year old asking. I'm not going to start lifting weights or jogging 2 or 3 miles a few times a week.

Yes. Building muscle mass on a controlled diet is a good way for guys to lose weight. You may not be lifting weights but you are still doing resistance training so you will build muscle mass. 250 pushups are too much for one muscle group though, and you want to give your muscles time to repair so you can't work them out each day. You'd be better off training several muscle groups a day (even with just a set of light dumbells) 2-3 times a week. It's about quality not quantity. I suggest you hire a good trainer to design a simple workout regime for you.

Edited to add, weights isn't a problem at your age so it's really up to you. Proper resistance training will be beneficial as you age. It isn't just for people who want to look muscular.

i've actually thought about hiring a trainer for a month or 2 .

i figure it will motivate me with someone pushing me and showing me some things.

I'm not sure what it would be like to just start a fitness routine at age 44 , just try and do a little more each day, whether it be one more rep , add a lb , just always try and improve and before you know it you will have made great progress..it really is as simple as that.

Pay no attn to the negative people who believe in nothing.:missingte

First of all it is good to have a balanced workout, ie all your muscle groups. Your body will benefit greatly and it's not as serious or time consuming as people probably think.

Yes pushups work several areas but they miss many many more ;) Trust me it's all about quality not quantity. The trainer would be a good idea. You can get him to set you a good routine that is less time consuming. He'll also teach your proper form which is very important.

It's also good to get a diet that suits your daily activities so you might want to check out a nutritionist or at least do some research online. A decent diet does make a huge difference. It might sound like too much trouble but you don't have to be too serious about it, it's not like you're trying to become a body model or something. Time won't be a problem as it'll take up less time than you 45min walk and 250 pushups and situps. The hardest part will just be getting used to a routine for the first few weeks.

J, you can start a fitness routine at any level of fitness, a personal trainer should be qualified to deal with "beginners". It really doesn't take much to stay healthy, for most people the problem is that it seems harder than what it really is so many think it won't be worth the trouble.

situps are pretty worthless ...don't waste your time doing them...you won't benefit from them, the big myth is situps will make your abs show, that is bull.

lifting heavy weights make your abs....I agree with Mr J, just start real light and like i said before add a lb here or there, set small goals, building muscle burns fat...I'm not sure where you are, ht wt, I think a little weights is the answer.

I know you can, I meant I'm not sure personally what it would be like...he needs to be more specific, if he's just looking to lose 10 lbs , 50lbs?

WNO - here are a few simple tips that are easy.

- Never skip breakfast. This is a must.

- Drink lots of water (6-10 glasses/day). You will feel full and less likely to snack.

- Make your last meal four hours before bedtime.

- Try to do anything after dinner like walking. You will burn calories at a faster pace when sleeping.

- Try to get in the habit of seven hours of sleep/night. It will help the body recover.

You might laugh at this one...if you really don't want to use weights....when you start your day, most people take a shower...okay, when you get in the shower start doing a set of squats right there in the shower...make sure you have a tub with some kind of stickie surface so you don't slip....squats even with no weights can help ,just do one set, but add one rep every day!

This will become harder than it may seem as the reps add up, it's a good way to get the blood flowing too.

This is a very basic, simple, time-saver, kind of exercise but a good tip IMO.

Abs are important to work. Not necessarily to make them show, but to build the core and help stabilize the body. DO some form of ab work.

Your abs get plenty of work if you're lifting weights...I've never done a situp in my life and have never needed to...situps are for pussies:thumbsup:

Seriously though if you don't plan on lifting any weights do some sort of ab work....I was trying to give suggestions to better use of the limited time, he seemed to want to dedicate to it.
