I seem to remember reading not very long ago that as of sometime in 2008, passengers for all airline flights will need something called a "Real ID". So where does one go to get a passport?

first thing you do is call your congressman's local office. each office should have someone who specializes in helping constituents obtain passports. they will also have the most up to date info on whether you are required to have a passport for the country you wish to visit. there's a lot of changes going on in this area, so check.

From the stories I hear, you should plan on waiting at least 6-8 MONTHS for your passport, because new rules have caused a tremendous backlog. you may get lucky and get it quicker, but don't count on it.

Just go to MacArthur park in LA and you can get any type of ID (passport, drivers license, social security card, green card, etc) you want. That's what all the SoCal illegals do and the police don't even care thanks to Sheriff Lee Baca's sanctuary philosophy.

Here in Wa. thier really fucking things up if you ride a ferry that happens to be International.

Meaning those fucking canucks are on board(just kidding of course).

This is suppose to be in effect starting next year.

I try to avoid all B.C. ferries anyway customs lines really suck getting off the boat!

I don't know how it works in the US. But here in Canada, you need to take a couple of pictures, then get them signed by certain authority only (ie. your Dentist, Doctor or a Lawyer..:monsters- )... You then take the pictures with your completed application forms, to a local Government office, grab a number and wait around 6 fucking hours to get processed..:nohead: Then 6 weeks later, you go back to same Government office and pick up your Passport.. :nopityA:

And the fee is: $85.00 Canadian, and it's good for 5 years. Then you have to go through the same fucking shit again..:nohead:

MUCH longer than 16 weeks now. Apparently you can't go to the Carribean without a passport anymore, so their backlog just increased exponentially.

All the newlyweds need them now (including my fiancee), and it's taking forever to come through. She applied months ago and is still waiting.

The good news is that for the Carribean, if it's within 2 weeks of your departure you can get a special form making it ok to go there without a passport if you have your birth certificate.
The bad news is that to get your passport you have to send in your ORIGINAL birth certificate so you have to go through the hassle of getting a copy.

Good times.
