OT: Why Do Men Have To Play Best Of 5 Sets And Women Only 3?

In tennis I never understood why men have to play best of 5 set matches in major championships and women only play best of 3...................and they both make the same money? It is the same exact game for both........correct?

That's correct - I feel the women should only make 60% of what the men make.

That would seem to be the fair way to go. I don't understand it......a politically correct decision, I guess.
