I'm thinking about the idea of moving to Las Vegas in a year or so, and just have some questions for people who live there:

I have only been to Las Vegas sports books for short stints, my question is whether or not if I bet and won on a consistent basis at a sports book, what would happen? I would probably be betting $100 per game, on many games, nearly every day of the year.

Second, I want to live in a nice neighborhood or development, preferably a nice gated community. Can any of you recommend any good ones or have links to any and the average price range one would pay for a medium-sized house?

That is about all of the questions I have at this point, but if I do decide to move to Vegas I am sure more questions will creep up on me.

By the way, hot weather does not matter to me, as I love sunny days and I can deal with the heat on most days.

If any other people from Las Vegas want to add in their 2 cents on anything to do with living there, by all means, go right ahead.

Thanks.

if all you are betting is 100 per game they won't do anything but give you comps...where do you currently live and the housing average is 310,000. if you are serious give me a call..i have a 3bed 2 bath 3 car garage, pool and jacuzzi in a nice part of the northwest part of town....3 casino's within 10 minutes from the house...strip is about 15 minutes away...you can get my email from any of the moderators....

I will get your email from a moderator. I live in the northwest, but housing costs are comparable I guess to Las Vegas from the sounds of it. I'd love to see some pictures of the house you are selling. I guess I will see it in email. One question though, is it in a gated community? That is what I would prefer, but if I got a real deal then it could work out without one..

Talk to you later.

EDIT: Also, amounts being bet could escalate to $200-250 per game later on down the road, still no trouble from the books?

Do it, I did and it was the best decison of my life. Obviously to each his own but if it makes sense for you then give it a shot. Everyone on here will be negative and tell you to stay away but I have nothing but great things to say. Live in Henderson or Summerlin, lots of places available.

Do you plan on working or just gambling?

Get my email if you want, I just moved out here a little over a year ago

100 to 300 per game probably no biggie if you are a regular...it's not in a gated but it only has two entrances in and out of the community...there are 88 homes in the sub....

I have heard good things about the places you listed. I will check into them. I am hoping to just gamble but I may work a little bit. It depends where I am financially in 6-12 months.

I'll get your email from a mod, it would be interesting to discuss the pros and cons with a relatively new transplant to LV.

I'll take a look at it if you've got pictures and discuss things further in email, of which I've requested from wilheim.

What about volume, as in playing 20-30 plays during baseball season, do books frown on this if your playing $100/game? I could always spread it over several books, I suppose...

Probably something like 20-30k at least, it all depends on how well the next 6-12 months go, really. Could be a bit less, just means I just change my unit size to fit the bankroll more appropriately. Min. I go in with would be 10k.

I think I will have some start-up money just to live off of for a while, also.

Well, I am not going to go renting an apartment. I could rent a house, though, I am not sure.

I was thinking about driving down a travel trailer that I have and living in an RV campground for a few months before making my final decision on whether or not to move there. I can get a good place in a good park for around $700 per month.

As for betting online instead of at local books, I would just being betting local in order to be more secure, and not have to hassle around with offshore books. I know the lines are a BIT more juicy in LV, but it's not THAT bad, I don't think.

Take that 20-30k and buy real estate. Your return would actually be positive. It is tough to live on negative income.

Summerlin is a nice area - when I take my wife to Vegas, we always stay at JW Marriott but will try Red Rock this Thursday for three nights. Summerlin reminds me of other upscale desert cities like Rancho Mirage and Scottsdale. Great dining options all over the place.

Las Vegas is a shithole. The city is dirty and the most of the people here are scumbags who think only of themselves. But you'll move here anyway just like thousands of other suckers every year so I'll give you some pointers to make this dump a little less smelly.

As Charlie said, forget the sportsbooks. They're a joke. Las Vegas got out of the sports betting business years ago. The books are only there as a convenience to keep people in the casino. Get yourself several offshore accounts. The betting menus in the sportsbooks here are laughable and with the hideous traffic, it will take you forever to get in and out of the casinos.

Housing prices here are completely out of line for what you get but that's market driven so there isn't much you can do about that. If possible, try to buy something in a neighborhood where you have an association. Seeing as so many people here are slobs, you'll end up living in a neighborhood where people think it's just fine to have their yards look like shit and have junk cars parked all over the place if you don't have an association to keep Las Vegans from being the filthy pigs that they are.

Seeing as the city and the county here have their heads up their ass when it comes to enforcing code violations in neighborhoods, if you don't have an association, you'll end up living in a dumpy neighborhood.

So, I have a question. If it is such a horrible place, why do you live there? Just seems puzzling as to the reasoning you would give for staying in Vegas.

I am pretty much only interested in getting a house in a gated community, unless a good deal comes along, so people would tend to keep their homes/yards more upscale. At least that is the case with private, gated communities up here in the PNW.

To be totally honest with you, you seem like a guy who is just trying to scare away any potential transplants. But hey, that's just me.

I have worked all the numbers out on paper doing this and I am sure you have to. If you make on average 25 plays a day at $110 a play and take off 30 days a year and win at 3% rate you would win 27k or so. With the cost of living there I am not sure that is doable.

You either have to up your volume of plays or your wager size, which in turn up's your bankroll. I have won 35k since Sept 1st of last year and was up 17k thru June (1st 6 months of year). I try to put around 40 untis of play into action a day. I know if I do that I should make around 3-4k a month.

I have ZERO problems betting offshore (knock on wood). Can't imagine it can be much easier getting plays down in Vegas. But all that a side I say go for it, why not. Espically with football coming up. Make sure you have at least 200 units of bankroll to bet with so you are betting 1% of bankroll per play. I would think the #1 problem would be the stress of losing the bankroll. If you can keep your monthly bills under 3k you should be all right. I have had almost zero stress betting and I attribute to playing with at least a 200 unit bankroll. There will be huge flucuations in your bankroll but I think if your bankroll is 200 units and you are playing 1 unit a play you will be fine.

Good Luck!!!!!!

You can Google plenty of real estate places that will have pictures of the houses for sale all over town. A nice home now is running around 300-350 in a good area like Summerlin and Henderson.

I'd recommend going to the Sam's Town RV park when you first hit town. You have plenty of casinos within a ten minute drive. It's on Boulder Hwy and there is ST, AZ. Charlies, Boulder Station, Nevada Palace, Sunset Station and the Fiesta as well as Jokers Wild and the Eldorado in Henderson.

If you are worried about them cutting off your action, you could just keep switching books every day or so. You could play at one a day and not hit the same one for a month or more.
