Someone told me that if you send the police an extra dollar for a ticket it wont show up on your driving record.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

It used to be true but not anymore, they are going to send you a letter stating they need the precise amount.

Yes most police stations have a tip jar right by the main computer. If you send an extra dollar they will take care of you, the paperwork magically disappears. Send them an extra $5 and they send a hooker by your place.

I left $7 and my hooker had a case of beer with her.

It is state by state but does not work most places anymore.

What used to happen is if you owed $135 and sent $140, the computer would create a refund of $5 and send you a check. If you never cashed it, the matter was never closed and the points did not show up.

Most states have corrected this, but it is always worth a chance.

I've been told the most effective method is to dispute tickets 6-12 months later if from another state... I have no idea if it works for real tickets, but a while ago, I had a ticket from Wyoming on my Ohio record. I had never been to Wyoming and sent a letter of dispute to the Ohio DMV. It went away about 2 weeks later. I believe they either have to pull hard evidence or delete...

This is one of those all star break threads we get every year. My first impulse was to rubber room it but maybe it will create a little extra civil discussion. That is a big maybe though.

Chances this thread is still here in the Offshore Forum by 5PM EDT this afternoon:

Most of you guys missed the whole point of this thread.

I did not pay the extra dollar as a bribe or a tip.

Someone told me one time that there is a glitch in the computer systems.

If you pay $1 more or any amount more for the ticket with a mailed in money order, this makes the computer read that its an incomplete transaction.

They cannot put something that is incomplete on your driving record.

Well today I got my my $1 check from the department with a letter telling me that I overpaid.

As long as I dont cash this $1 check, I have been told that the ticket will not go on my record.

I will keep you posted to see if this works.

Sean

Thank you sean.

Someone around here besides me has heard of this.

Ignorance is bliss I guess.

I had not heard of this before, no.... but I am wondering like what sean1 says, I wonder if more states have adapted & consider the matter completed once they MAIL out a refund check because they know/realize that a person may never bother to cash a $1.00 check. So with the matter completed on their side, they proceed with the report into your driving record.

Let's see what happens, though.
