Have known this guy for 10 years and bet with him for 5. He is one of 3 locals I use. I trusted him to the fullest and we came to an agreement to that we square up after hoops season. He is always paid me on time.

One of the guys I had calling him and betting with me has dealt with the bookie as I hate calling and making bets. 2 weeks after hoops season we decide to call him and he says that he needs a few more weeks to pay me as he is still collecting. I know the guy doens't take baseball so not sure were this is headed. I tell my guy (the middle man in this) that this is none of our fault and he should pay us, as I have NEVER slow paid him in my life.

Not sure if I should be really mad or what. The guy doesn't have a high paying job and was clearly my worst of my 3 locals. So will ditch hom after this.

Anyone have any suggestions? Don't want to cross the line with this guy as he was always a good guy with me, even outside of betting but kind of thinking he is waiting for football so he can collect from others who lose. Once a bookie slowpays he loses all his good players so not even sure who is left for him.

i would send him a text saying you want your cash

if that doesn't work, put on your Tigers jersey and go beat him down

or take my dog's crap and dump into his yard.

I guess the bottom line is, do you give the benefit of the doubt to a bookie that is an old friend?

give him a call yourself and find out what is going on. I wouldn't be too hard on him as I know my local got absolutely KILLED during NBA playoffs. He said all the obvious sides and totals hit. Locals make money hand over fist during NFL. The goal is to get paid, not to piss him off, so I would find out what is going on and then be prepared to wait until football season.

Friendship is one thing but business is business. Do what you need to to collect your cash even if that means taking payments at scheduled dates and times. If he misses a payment, start calling his home and leave "reminder" messages - if he's married or has a girlfriend, they might here one of those messages and get after him as well. Btw, after you get your cash from him don't use him again.

does he admit oweing you?

If he admits it, tell him you are okay with 50$ a month, and just set up a payment plan.

Can you live without the 1,400? If so just let it go it's not worth it. If it's personal and your pissed leave a couple of messages at his work or with his wife.

contact him first, and if there is no dispute on the 1400, then take small payments, if you have to. But dont let the guy amortize it out over the full term.

Example = 50.00 a month for 5 months, then ONE payment of 1150.00. If the guy moans, remind him how you paid him.

Then find another out, and move on

I think the thing that irrates me the most is the fact for the past couple years he has flaunted around town that he was a bookie.

The sad thing is he was taken advantage of by some low lifes he decided to book with back in the day.

I paid him $2,100 during football season, so he is up on me. I had a funny feeling this day was coming as the old nice guys finish last thing will apply to me on this one. Cause I sat back in the distance and kept my mouth shut and never complained he ended up not worrying about me. Might be chalking up this one to a lesson learned.

Payment plans in the gambling world seldom work and a broke BM is worse then a broke DG. You can lay down all the payment and interest plans you want but this isn't banking and if he is broke your'e getting nothing.

Seems fishy to have a relationship with a book in such a manner as you have. Deal with him yourself and be honest with him and things have a much better chance of working out IMO.

Known him since he was 21 years old and going to the bars. he is currently 30. Kind of guy that is real cool about money and will buy drinks all nite. Like i said never ever had a problem with him in the past, ever.

I ruined a few relationships when I so called went out of business. Problem was I did not have enough money to pay the people that were owed. You are probably not the only one that is being stiffed and I am sure he is getting threats. I would be very pissed as were most when I quit but this is what happens with locals.

If he can't muster up $1400 then write it off and move on.

Seriously this is what is known as a two bit bookie.

Of course all bookies start out two bits and move up the food chain from there.

Late hoops and early baseball hurt alot of books for sure and I think thats reflected in the offshores also, slow paying and no paying as only the hardcore bettors stuck around after the Superbowl and all the government meddling.

Sienfield say's:hey your the bookie act like one!

Be mellow about it. Everybody's human, you've known the guy for awhile, seems like a decent person, give him a chance to pay you when football starts again. If the shoe was on the other foot had bad do you think he would harass you. Than again your "the Iceman" and the shoe would probably not be on the other foot. Try and work with him, I'm sure'll he'll pay you. Even throw him a bone or two if he continues his booking business. Just my opinion.

Wow, that's some book - he can't come up with $1400 - some of my dinners are near $1400 - tell him to pay the fuck up - don't wash it on principal alone regardless if you need it or not - if you lost it you would have paid
