Hey guys,

I've been gambling for a little over a year. Despite having winning records in both college basketball and pro football i was unable to turn a profit overall and ended up going broke on one of them. Is it smarter to bet the same amount on all the games you deem playable after u cap them or to appropriate different amounts depending on how much you like them.. for example an x amount bet on a smaller game and a 2x on a game you really like? Additionally I will be depositing 1000 for the upcoming football season. what are reasonable unit bets from that?

Thanks, I'm hoping someone much more experienced then I can show me the light haha

1000 bucks does not leave you much room. Bigger bankrolls play 1% to 5% per game depending.

You should go like 50 per game. If you really like a game or get ahead maybe go to 75 or 100 per game. Anything more than that you are asking for trouble.

based on the information you presented, it seems to be a much smarter idea for you to bet a base amount on every pick. In getting advice from anyone I have ever respected that wagers on sports, you should never be making a bet of more than 5% of your bankroll, so $50 max.

and fhmesq44 is right, don't be a sucker and bet parlays or any other of the bets a sportsbook "offers" (besides straight bets). They are only offering them for one reason, they make the book money.

Play sides, and not gimmicks, teasers, etc for now.

Assign unit value on your selections. 1 or 2 units, are games you are not real sure of, 5 units would be one you like a lot. Any one bet should never exceed 5 to 7.5% of your existing bankroll. Remember, if you start at $1,000, with a unit value of 10.00 ea., and then lose 100.00, your individual units are no longer 10.00 ea., but now 9.00. Keep adusting this way when you win also. This way, you are cutting down when going sour, and betting up when you are winning.

Most of all, be honest with yourself when assigning unit values. Dont make some 2 unit game a "5-unit-locK" just because you are stuck on a sunday and want to get out. Be real to the game, and it will be real to you.

best of luck
