ALBERT PUJOLS +400

  • He is currently in the worst Home Run slump of his career (21 games, 71 At-Bats) and this is a perfect time for him to break out of that. Pujols probably joined this event with the sole purpose of changing his Home Run luck by winning this.
  • In 2003, some of you may not remember this but, Pujols hit 14 Home Runs in the second round of the Home Run Derby and lost to Garett Anderson in the final (9-8). That was his one and only ever Home Run Derby appearance and he came up one HR short of winning the thing.
  • Much like Ryan Howard last year at PNC Park, Pujols does not hit well at AT&T Park so it doesn't really matter. Howard has terrible numbers in Pittsburgh but he was able to win the competition last year. Pujols has 2 career HR's in this ballpark in 75 career at bats so altough not good, he has hit some out of this place.
  • Pujols and Howard are by far the two best sluggers in this competition despited the numbers Prince Fielder is putting up. Fielder is too young to win this thing and he'll probably buckle under the pressure in either the first or second rounds.
  • I can't believe the kinds of odds we're getting on Pujols seeing how he hit 49 HR's last year and seeing how he has hit over 40 Home Runs in four straight season. People are making a huge mistake by forgetting or ignoring Albert's current slump because the way things are going, he is probably going to win this event, come back out after the Break and hit 30 HR's to once again surpass the 40 Home Run mark...it all starts tonight baby!
  • Last time I checked this was not an easy place to hit Home Runs but guys who can pull the ball to the right side have had success hitting them in this park. Pujols always gets the ball up there and this should be a great chance for him to hit some balls dead on out of this park.
  • Don't forget guys that pitchers don't like throwing to Pujols in particular knowing how weak the rest of the Cardinals lineup is. He rarely sees any good pitches and tonight is probably the first time all season he is going to see nothing but balls he can smash right out of this damn park.

predicted order:
1. Fielder
2. Howard
3. Pujols
4. Guerrero
5. Morneau
6. Holliday
7. Rios
8. Ordonez

I think Rios is being overlooked because the guy flat out drops BOMBS in BP. I'm not sure he can advance this year because the field is as good as it has been in some time.

I would avoid the Pujols vs. Rios play IMO because Pujols will have to get into a groove (if he does he could hit 12-13...but he could easily only hit 2 because of 7-8 line drives into the gaps) and Rios is a lock to hit somewhere around 5, on average, w/ more consistency

Guerrero swings at everything while the other contestants will be patient..can't see backing VG....comes down to the lefties because of the dimensions of the park...just my opinon...

Yeah, in a game. When pitchers are actually trying to pitch around him.

Not when he has his everyday BP pitcher soft tossing to him. (Angels 3B coach Dino Ebel)

Any idea who brought their own guys to throw BP? Those guys always seem to do better.

Haha....probably, but I'm still kind of proud of this "cap" from 4 years ago.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Playing GA for a unit. Now, before everybody starts screaming HOMER!........
Did you know:???
Of the guys on this list....since June 1st, Only Jim Edmonds(17) has more HR's than GA(15)??
Giambi also has 15 since that arbitrary date, but everyone else is behind GA.
Additionally, GA's 15 knocks have come over a span of 156 AB's....
one every 10.4 AB's
And he has done all this with nobody hitting behind him.....
BRX and Keystone will get that one d:)
The value is insane......20-1 in an 8 man field considering the above stats??
I know GA doesn't have your typical juiced up power hitter's body, or any experience in these types of competitions...but his smooth easy swing should suit him fine here w/ the BP fastballs.
Plus.....he won't be over-swinging like some of these knuckle-heads trying to hit it 500+.....He knows they just have to clear the fence.
Longshot?? Yes. But one worth backing IMO
Good health tonight with Pujols, have him busting out in the 1st round, but have Rios and Morneau struggling even worse. Don't discount the fact that Pujols has struggled in SF (2 homers in around 80 ab's)
Too late now for what i'm saying to mean much, so go win it.
