Hellmuthian Arrival
Phil Hellmuth was supposed to arrive in an Ultimate Bet racing car. Since he crashed it in the parking lot yesterday afternoon, Hellmuth arrived in a limo wearing a racing uniform and carrying a helmet. Eleven women (each representing one of the eleven bracelets he's won) greeted him and escorted the Poker Brat from the parking lot down the long corridor in the convention center leading up to the Amazon Ballroom. It was a frenzy of media and fans who chased him down the hallway like he was the reincarnation of The Beatles. Hellmuth posed for photos and signed autographs as ESPN's film crew captured his every move. He finally entered the Amazon Ballroom, two hours late, and with his eleven escorts trailing behind him. He eventually took his empty seat. His tablemates joked that he should wear the racing helmet so he didn't have to hide his face with his hands. Phil Hellmuth has finally arrived to play in the WSOP main event. He begins his quest for bracelet #12 and his second overall World Championship.

he got burned pretty badly last year when he showed up late, lost a couple hands early and was booted pretty quickly. As Santo said, anyone can show late, leave early, leave for a butt, lunch, dump, whatever, they just keep on playing without you, muck your hands and take whatever you would be required to play on that particular hand.

Phil's an ass, pure and simple. He created a brand. Is he one of the best player's in the world. Tournaments yes, cash games no. He would get crushed in the 4000-8000 game at the Bellagio. Cash game players have alot of heart. You don't need that in tournaments.

I don't know about everyone else, but my heart pumps a lot more the late stages of a tourney than in a cash game. Only time I got nervous was when I had 6 times the buyin and I was in a massive pot with another guy who had about the same stack.

Levi I have to disagree here. In a "live" cash game there is nothing better when you flop the nuts and 2 people are betting into you. Just knowing that those people are handing over real cash ia just awesome.

1 time I'm big blind with K,4o. early puts up $10 raise 2 more callers and then to me. I call. Boom K,K,4 on the flop. Now it's not the nuts but close. I check guy bets 10, 1 caller I call. turn comes a 2. Now I feel like I got the nuts. Hell I am praying they bet again. I bet out 20 , guy raises it to $50. The other guy calls I raise it to put both of the all in. Unreal they both call. Boom baby a huge fucking pot and I had it the whole way. Guy had 4's in the hole and the other had a K,10.

I just always get the feeling that with tourny's it's not real money to me. I mean buy in for $100 and start with 1500 in chips. I always say how much and I chip off before I get myself in trouble. That sometimes gets me in trouble.

Cash live games at the casino is the way to go for me. Many many fish in Detroit that will just call off all thier money.

When you're playing from noon to 4am (which is what I was told that at least one of the first days was), you are bound to have a few guys that aren't exactly beating down the door to make it for the opening hand.

I agree that is a long ass day. Not sure I could grind out that kind of day.

And back to Phil it is hard to argue that he is great at what he does. Hell has he even worked a real job in his life. He won at like 22 or something. No need for a job when he wins hat early in life.

I will play in that tourny before I die.

I always thought "Nuts" was unbeatable hand even with more cards coming. His hand could have lost with 10 on river or another 4.

TRS had the current nuts. It can change on every street in most hands. And if another 4 came I would consider checking the deck.

ha It was bound to happen sooner or later.

I dunno what TRS was saying, but he seems to be on quite the rush lately, maybe he can challenge Chop as king of the rx poker club.

Time the posters hit it on the head. I knew after the flop I had the nuts but it could still be beat with the next 2 cards. In cash games it's all about getting as many chips as possible when you have a big hand. I don't try to steal blinds in the cash games I play. 1,2 NL is not a game to steal blinds in. Now in tourny's it all about getting chips whenever you can. And Yes I was trying to keep them in as long as possible. I have taken a $100 and turned it into 1800. Hell I haven't played in 2 weeks

LOL Chop in a live game would be no challenge. I would just insult the Braves and the Saints and put him on tilt. Chop needs alot of help on his game from what I read when he was doing the challenge.
