Troy Brown isn’t going anywhere.
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td height="8"><spacer type="block" height="8" width="8"></td></tr></tbody></table> According to league sources, the wide receiver has reached agreement on a one-year deal that will bring him back to New England for a 15th season - second in club history only to Steve Grogan’s 16 - and ensure that Mr. Patriot remains in Foxboro.
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td height="8"><spacer type="block" height="8" width="8"></td></tr></tbody></table> Brown, who turned 36 on July 2, has spent the last six months rehabbing his knee following surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon. Head coach Bill Belichick declared Brown in the team’s plans in March, but Brown first needed to prove to himself he was healthy enough to play.

<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td height="8"><spacer type="block" height="8" width="8"></td></tr></tbody></table> Offseason additions Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth and Kelley Washington are part of a deep field that includes holdovers Reche Caldwell [stats] and Jabar Gaffney [stats], as well as Brown, the injured Chad Jackson, and longshots like Bam Childress and Kelvin Kight.
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td height="8"><spacer type="block" height="8" width="8"></td></tr></tbody></table> With the Pats likely to keep only five or six wideouts, Brown will battle Washington, Gaffney and Caldwell for the final two to three spots. Jackson, who underwent offseason knee surgery of his own, will probably start the year on the physically unable to perform list.
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td height="8"><spacer type="block" height="8" width="8"></td></tr></tbody></table> Brown has versatility on his side, given his ability to play defensive back in dime packages, as well as on special teams. He’s likely to lose reps in the slot, however, to Welker, a 26-year-old with a game remarkably similar to that of Brown’s younger days.
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td height="8"><spacer type="block" height="8" width="8"></td></tr></tbody></table> Brown is coming off his best season offensively since 2002, when hecaught 97 passes. He snagged 43 passes last year, including four touchdowns. He also surpassed Stanley Morgan for No. 1 on the team’s all-time receptions list, finishing the year with 557.

PAts have done well. Troy Brown has been a great Patriot for a long while now. He still finds ways to contribute in several different areas like Special teams, defense and WR.
