He seems to be a guy you either love him or hate him. I happen to like Sheffield a lot. And I think he is one of the most under rated sluggers in this era. Was he on steroids? Im not so sure about him. Sosa,Bonds,McGwire,Palmeiro,etc... no queston... but Sheffiled? Im not so sure, I know he was working out with Bonds for a couple years or so and they were pretty good friends. So you would think he maybe was but im not entirely sold on him. For a guy that takes such a vicious swing every single at bat he has never struck out 100 times in a season, which is remarkable for a guy that takes such powerful swings all the time. He has walked more than he has k'd in his career which is a great stat, and he is approaching 500 HRS which he needs 23 more hrs to reach and who knows the way he is bashing the ball this year he might do it. He has 22 hrs so far this season and is hitting .309. He has added such a good bat to the middle of the Tigers lineup. I was hoping the Cubs would have taken a look at Sheffield in the offseason I am a big fan of his game. He also has 15 sbs this season. A big knock on him is his attitude but I like how he says how he feels. He isnt scared of what people thinks of him and he tells it how it is. He has always played hard and in my opinion is a lock for the hall of fame but i know their are a lot of people out there who disagree on that. He is going to get to 2,500 hits this season and has a couple seasons left in the tank especially at the DH position so 3,000 hits is also a possibility for him depending on how many years he decides to put on the spikes.

I used to love sheff....esp when he first signed w/ NY....but I can't wait for this guy to retire.....He really left Bonds out to dry a few years back and all he ever does is bitch to the press.

Homeboy has been falling apart for many years.....that body must've had something to add wear and tear.

One of my favorite players to watch hit. Remember when our baseball coaches said "Don't try to kill it, just make contact"? You and I said "OK coach". Sheff said "No way skip. I can't lay off...baseballs are white".

He's fucking hilarious. He called Joe Torre a racist basically, and pointed out to the Stevie Wonders and Ray Charles of the world that yes, Derek Jeter is in fact - not completely black. Thanks Einsten. Very entertaining.

I am a Tigers fan, so this is the first year I have watched him day in and day out. Sheffield plays to win every game. He does big things and little things to get the job done. I am completely surprised that he is still running so well, and he steals bases at clutch times. And he hits the ball hard every time, even for outs. Great addition for Detroit.

I could care lass about him as a baseball player, but as a person, yeah, like whalewager says, he's an ignorant racist. Considering his remarks about Derek Jeter, the funny thing is, look at him, he's definitely got some white blood in his heritage also.

Just read where one of his children (his son) is half white.

im not a baseball guy but i will respect someone who says whats on there mind instead of saying the pc thing. it might not be right, but at least it's coming from him instead of a card by his agent.

not the sharpest tool in the thread, but still on the tip of any pitchers' tongue in his late 30's if you ask pitchers the 5 hitters you would least like to face

You and Gary are quite alike! That's about the most ignorant reason to respect someone that I've ever heard.

One of the biggest tools out there. Just remember his little stunt making errors intentionally so Milwaukee would get rid of him.

Cancer on every team he has played for.

Sheffield is playing for his seventh team. The thinking is, he keeps running out of shrinks and has to move on to a new city. He is alternately one of the game’s greatest talents and biggest headaches. His mind works like a knuckleball — never dull, sometimes over the plate, maybe off the barn door or through the kitchen window.

Not saying he can't be an idiot but he is ARGUABLY the Tigers MVP so far this season. Just hope his mouth doesn't end up hurting THIS team.
