An 81-Player Chop? When there were 81 players left, Assistant Tournament Director Jimmy Sommerfeld announced that they had reached another level in the prizepool, and everyone was guaranteed at least $106,382 -- finally breaking the six-figure barrier.

When everyone finished cheering the news, Sommerfeld added, "Unless you'd like to chop it 81 ways."

Well, we've run the numbers here at PokerNews, and with $38,823,477 left in the prizepool, an 81-player chop would give everyone $479,302.19. Almost half a million dollars each for 81 people.

Before you laugh off this idea, keep in mind that 72 of these players will make less than that. To earn more, they'll need to reach the final table.

Would you do it?

i take the money....

if i were in it for a bracelet, I'd play the smaller buy-in events.....if i were in it for the recognition of world champion, then that is another story....i doubt Harrahs would allow a chop in the WSOP, but if they did, no way would anyone top 10 in chips agree to chop this evenly.

I would take the money unless I had a large stack at a good table since I wouldn't expect to be able to outplay everyone else. A guaranteed half a mil is worth more to me than 100k and an outside shot at a huge payday.

i would continue to play, but would also continue to fold my pocket aces everytime we were bubbling a new payout level.

I would not do the chop at all. They make the point to say that only 9 players get more money than the chop. Well 10-12 only get $3000 less than the offer.

Anyway, it is stupid to even think about it since it is hard enough to get 10 people to agree to a chop. A 10 person chop almost NEVER happens!

At 81 people left, AT LEAST 30 of the guys would NEVER agree to the deal. At that point, EVERYONE was making $100,000 each, no reason to chop it at that time.

You can't get 3 people alot of the time to get together and chop.

This tourney is about the bracelet who cares about the money.

I have played in tournaments and it is RARE for 2 or 3 people to chop.

It was interesting to see the chop total. It was alot to think about, but trust me that it was NEVER a possibility for 30 of them

I am surprised they would even allow a chop in this event. Imagine if everyone agreed to the chop? the TV ratings and the image of poker would take a huge hit. In an event like this there should be absolutely no deals and no chopping.

We're talking about a hypothetical scenario, whether or not it is realistic is totally irrelevant.

Well they would have kept playing even with the chop. They would play for the bracelet. But obviosly, a chop would never happen even for the final 20.

In the past, there have been chops withint the final 3 people so televised tournaments. But no one would know on TV because it is of course talked about off camera

From my experience the people who dont take the chop, end up losing more then they would have by taking the chop.
