My wife and I have grown tired of the grind of the NY Metropolitan area. We've decided that we're at the point where we'd like something with a little slower pace and an overall lower level of stress.

My wife is an Occupational Therapist and i'm a Corporate Controller for a large company in the Metro Area. We have one daughter about to start kindergarten and one starting nursery school.

We're thinking about the Southeast or the Midwest, although i'm not interested in Florida and I don't want to go somewhere that is colder than NY. I want to make sure we go somewhere with good public schools, within distance of a city where I can get a job at my level and where the cost of housing is somewhat reasonable.

We've basically decided that the hours we're both putting in to maintain a comfortable living in this area just isn't worth it anymore.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be good spots for lifelong New Yorkers to relocate?

The only people that live here in Raleigh are people from NY or PA people. I'm one of them.

we may need to limit the number we allow across the border with virginia....like most things in life there is a limit to how much of anything a society can handle.....

 I hear ya. I am happy right here though...

sorry as i meant to reference donny, we have become new york south....truth of the matter is most of the natives here don't give a fcuk how they do it in new york, don't care how great the food was or how great the schools are supposed to be. we like sugar in our tea and salt on our food, come on if you must but leave the idea of telling us how dumb and backwards ass we are behind, the fact that they leave and come here should tell us something. i doubt many of us would act the way many of them do if we chose to relocate to another state, as you can tell i had an interaction with one this weekend and this was the first thread of the day........let me drop the negative vibe....

No offense taken. I guess. In any case, i'm not looking to go somewhere new to complain about how I miss the old place. I understand that the Carolinas are starting to become New York South and that is slightly unappealing to me. Not enough to keep me from moving there, though, as I do know some ex-NYers who are extremely happy.

went in to releive my coffee shop manager for the afternoon and wouldn't you know, mr and mrs food critic from new york come in and procede to complain about every item from the rueben to the latte, if they had wanted a free meal just beg instead of trying to cause a scene. i'm not unaccustomed to dealing with these types as i've seen them many, many times. it is sometimes difficult to maintain your composure when you know truly what someone is doing.

i might add we make one of the top rueben's in town, meat shaved razor thin and pilled high on fresh from the bakery rye bread.....good quality cheese, rarely if ever do they hear complaints.

All kinds of opportunities here in Champaign, Major brain power in this place, REAL affordable housing, no commute times what so ever. University town so there is always something going on.

How is the weather in Illinois, Brock? I really don't want to go somewhere with worse winters than NY.

I'm not the type to complain about stuff like that. I have a true Type-A personality (as does Mrs Basbl), but that mainly pertains to our work ethic and general impatience with the idiots around us in NY.

I'm thinking a less stressful existence will be good for us in the long run and better for our kids.

teaze you're making me crave lunch now, see waht ya did?

this really got my mouth watering-

"meat shaved razor thin and pilled high on fresh from the bakery rye bread.....good quality cheese"

That summed it up, a quality roll is crucial to a great sandwich, I also love the meat shaved thin like that.

Donny

I can see why you are looking to Move.. It says that you are on Long Island ?? If you are in Nassau and own a home, the Taxes are a Killer !
If you are in Suffolk, the taxes are getting up there as well.

All in all the prices of homes and the cost of living there can't help a family

My wife and I always talk about if a Young couple get married, and both sides of the family give them $100K each as a wedding present to get started !! With $200K...WHERE ARE THEY GOING ?? What Kind of House can they get with that ? In New York ?? Maybe in East New York ! Not on Long Island !

Put down $200K on a House is Nice ! But they still will have a $500K Mortgage ! How are they going to did it ??

So I think The Carolinas is the Place to be.. Since you don't want Fla.

I wish you and your Family the Best in finding a Place to better your Life.
