I just started playing poker online again. And I was just thinking...About the WVU challenge(how everyone was unsuccessful(And I would most likely be unsuccessful also)).

Whats your best strategy at making profit playing poker online?

I figured out about a year ago that I am not that good, but I can win by pissing off the other players. This is especially true with heads up play.

Jasin..do not chase or go on tilt...that is very hard to not do....as there is noone around you to hear you scream when you make a bad call for 100$ for all your chips and lose so many people lose one hand and go tilto

I think you have to play tight. It's easier said than done. Steal blinds when you know you can get away with it. Play with good rake back.

Sit and go? Is just more like Sit and chill out. Dont get too crazy in the beginning.

Tourneys, play tight tight. Steal blinds when you can.

Ring games, play tight. But here is where studying the other players makes you better. Push the good cards when you have them, but know when to lay them down!

Having said all that, I find it hard to have the patience for it. lol.

I have a few theories but the one I feel strongest about is play VERY TIGHT. If you only play quality hands then you may come out a head and when you get a quality hand play it agressiviely.

Thst sounds easy but it is not.

My favorite play is when I have been folding for a half hour, and I get another crap hand. So I just make a small raise from middle and everybody just folds like "Oh, he's probably got something this time." And thats stealing the blinds and staying alive.

But the type of patience needed for that stuff is just too much for me.

Exactly what robfunk said. I play that exact way, and have profited pretty nicely over the last couple years.

I learned the day bonus became rare that I'm not a good player. My biggest problem by far is the tilt factor. When I go on tilt, I start playing very bad on every table. So a bad beat on 1 table has me lose a crapload on 4 tables (normally play 4).

My advice to you is to play tight, only trap loose players, and know when to fold. For the easy win, look for shdw01 (on PStars, nut_floppers on FTP) for dead money.

Agree w/ tight on the SnGs....start out tight and only play monsters...this should put you on the bubble w/ an average to large stack, then you will hopefully survive the bubble play cause you will loosen up and people will think that you have the goods.

Play at WSEX, 75% rake back. Makes a big difference to the bottom line when every Monday you're getting a rake deposit in your account.

The best way for 85% of the players to win, is to NOT PLAY AT ALL!

Although ring games are a slightly different story.

So, hows your poker game...if your suggesting for people to not play at all, you must be cashing 70% of the time.

No I suck online as well! I end up wasting some of my profit from live games and tournaments online.

It is REAL hard to be patient online. MUCH easier to be patient in a live casino where people get to see your look when you fuck up.

One thing that WILL help your play tremendously is to try table talking. Bash a few players, heckle them whatever it takes to get under their skin. If you do this, then it will force them to make some bad calls to try and get you back.

JUST MAKE sure not to bash someone for MAKING a bad call. Please dont give out free lessons. That is the thing that pisses me off the most about online poker. People are always calling people donkeys and fish. DONT GIVE OUT FREE LESSONS.

I paid alot to learn how to play this damn game and so should others

My ROI in online is -10% I believe at stars. At prima poker it is around +5400% due to a few big wins. I won $83000 for second place in one of their tournies 2 years ago.

But I have won around $41,000 at stars, but have risked more since my ROI is -10%. I an admit when I suck, but I also know when to back away a bit. I play in too many of the $215 and $530 entry tournaments at stars. I dont have that many cashes in those, so it is hard to have a positive ROI when you can cash in 30% of them

This is why I turn chat off. Though when I turn it back on at the end it's usually full of people asking "Is xxxx a bot?!"

Thats a problem I have. When I chat it up, I get destroyed. When I ignore everyone, I do MUCH better.

Check out my poker journal jasin, I play a pretty tight game, although my pokertracker says otherwise. No matter how tight the internet is compared to live, money can still be made.

I went to a festival last night, they were playing 1/2NL, was the softest NL game in the United States. I put my stamp of approval on that game, holy shit it was bad. I was so mad at myself for getting their an hour before they close (I was just up their because of a big fireworks display they have), had I known I would of set up shop and played all day Fri/sat/sun. Players calling 20 raises with Q2, calling down to the river with Ace high, calling down to the river with nothing, hitting a 3 on the river then firing out. It was the worst poker id ever seen.

once, a long ass time ago (at pokerroom), I entered a daily tourney, and started chatting up a storm (real friendly chatter)....everyone was nice and the money was maybe top 60, when it was about 70, i was real short stacked but everyone on my table wanted me to cash (WTF? i'll take it) and kept telling me stuff that is probably not allowed (don't call this, i'll check it down for you, go all in now cause i will fold, etc.)

Made the cash, and then everyone wanted me to make final table. I was literally given free blinds at least once an orbit. Was last in chips from about 70 ppl until i got booted around 5th....fricking hilarious!

I've seen that happen as well, never on a big site though shd, usually the smaller sites people all know each other a little better and soft play happens.
