4 Unit Play. Arizona. The Snakes have the clear edge in the pitching department on Friday with Cy Young winner Brandon Webb on the mound. Webb has dominated against the Cubs going 4-0 with a 2.52 era against them and will easily take this game with star player Derek Lee still serving a suspension.

3 Unit Play. Over 9 SF/MIL. Jeff Suppan has been one of the biggest free agent busts this season for the Crew, as he has yet to find his form from the second half of last season. He currently sits at 8-8 with a 4.90 era and that ain’t good considering he pitches in the National League. The Giants exploded yesterday by getting Barry Bonds back into the line-up and expect another strong output Friday. This game belongs to the over and we will not worry about who wins this affair.

4 Unit Play. Los Angeles. The Halos have the edge in the pitching department tonight with John Lackey toeing the rubber against veteran Carlos Silva. Neither pitcher has received much run support this season, but Lackey has much better stuff then Silva. The Twins just got swept by the Tigers this week and are starting to realize that the season will not include postseason. The Halos win to keep their stranglehold on the AL West.

3 Unit Play. Cleveland. Ameriquest Field in Arlington is the spot for this American League contest. Fausto Carmona has had a remarkable turnaround and continues to shine in the hitter dominated American league. He is currently 11-4 with a 3.77 era. He has yet to lose a start in July 3-0 and will give up some runs in the jet stream of Arlington, but will keep his team ahead throughout and earn the Tribe a much needed victory.

Game: Arizona at Chicago Cubs (2:20 PM Eastern)
Pick: Chicago Cubs +110

The Cubs continue to do it for us. They won for us again yesterday and we'll back them today as well. They've won six of their past seven and 18 of 23. Arizona has lost four of five and 12 of 16. Despite these streaks, we get the better hot team as a home dog here. Hallelujah! Sure, Jason Marquis has struggled of late, posting a 7.47 ERA over his last three starts. But, his team is 2-1 in those starts! And, he's 4-2 overall at home this season with a 3.90 ERA. Don't get too carried away with his recent perfomance. Brandon Webb, while solid this year has also been off of late (13 runs allowed in 18.7 innings in his last three starts). The big difference is that Marquis will get run support and Webb will not. Chicago gets 5.0 per game at home and 5.2 per game vs. righties. Right now this team is averaging 7 runs per game over their last seven games. Arizona averages just 3.9 per game on the road and vs. RHP. Their offense is slumping, if that's possible, posting 3.4 per game over their last seven. To get a much hotter team, with a much beter offense as a home dog is a gift that doesn't come along often. Take this gift!

Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays
Play on Seattle w/ Batista

After a day of and taking two of three from Baltimore the surprising Seattle Mariners roll into Toronto to take on the Blue Jays in game 1 of their weekend series. The Mariners are in the midst of a fine season as they come in at 53-39 overall and trail the front running Angels by only 2 games.

To start the series, the Mariners send right-hander Manual Batista who has pitched well over his last three starts going 2-1 with a low 2.25 ERA. In his career against the Blue Jays, Batista is 2-1 with a microscopic .87 ERA. This should spell trouble for Toronto as they have been having bit problems with right-handers this season going only 28-38.

Toronto comes in off a huge series against the Yankees where they were hoping to leap over them into second place in the NL East. Unfortunately, although they won on Thursday, they Yankees took 3 of the 4 games. The series loss left the Blue Jays at 46-49 good for third place and 10 1/2 games off the pace in the AL East.

Toronto will oppose Batista with a right-hander of their own in Jesse Litsch. Litsch will be making his 7th start of the season and is 2-3 on the season with a 4.02 ERA. When at home Litsch has not been that effective going only 1-1 with a rather high 5.78 ERA.

SUPPORTING TRENDS: SEATTLE is 16-7 (+10.2 Units) against the money line with a hot bullpen whose WHIP is under 1.250 the last 15 games this season. SEATTLE is 17-8 (+12.1 Units) against the money line against AL East opponents this season. BATISTA is 16-8 (+13.5 Units) against the money line in road games over the last 2 seasons.

The Mariners swept the Blue Jays in Seattle back in June and things shape up even better this time around as the Jays will not see a left-hander all weekend. This is a great price for a team that has everything in it's favor. I'm taking Seattle in this one!

Marc Lawrence

Play On: Milwaukee w/Suppan over San Francisco w/Lowry Note:

Brewers turn to Jeff Suppan at home against Noah Lowry and the Giants knowing they've come up winners in seven of Suppan's nine home starts this season. With Lowry winless lifetime in his career team starts against Milwaukee with an 8.08 career ERA, look for San Francisco to dip to 5-12 in road series openers this evening.

Karl Garrett
LA Angels at MINNESOTA (+125)

Minnesota was in prime striking position at the start of the week, but Central leader Detroit won all 3 off the Twins. All 3 of those wins came by just 1-run which leads the G-Man to believe Minnesota is ready to bust loose tonight.
The Angels were only able to win 1 of 3 at Tampa Bay, and their road mark this year is only 25-24. John Lackey certainly rates the edge over Carlos Silva in tonight's matchup, but the Twins were able to get to Lackey last season when he faced them, as the All-Star went 0-1 in 2 starts against Minnesota last season, allowing 6 runs in 15 innings of work.
Carlos Silva will look to build off of his last start which saw him go 7 strong innings while allowing 3 runs in a home win over Oakland.
Minnesota could very easily have won all 3 off of Detroit instead of losing all 3, and the G-Man thinks they will come through with the win tonight to stop the 3 game slide.

Take the Twins in the home underdog role.

2♦ MINNESOTA

Bobby Maxwell
San Francisco (+130) at MILWAUKEE

The Giants showed they can produce some runs Thursday even though they lost in Chicago 9-8. Today they have their best pitcher going as they open a series in Milwaukee against the Brewers.
Noah Lowry (9-7, 3.50 ERA) is on the mound for San Francisco and the lefty has gone 2-1 in his last three outings with a 2.95 ERA. He's allowed just one run in three of his last four starts and the Giants have won five of his last seven outings.
His last road start saw him allow just one run on four hits over six innings in a 4-3 win in St. Louis.
Jeff Suppan (8-8, 4.90 ERA) is 0-1 in his last three starts with a 5.06 ERA. He has given up three runs or more in nine of his last 10 outings and hasn't faced the Giants since last season when he was a starter with the Cardinals.
Milwaukee has won seven straight against the Giants but Lowry will put an end to that today. Grab the plus-money and play San Francisco in this one.

2♦ SAN FRANCISCO

Cincinnati at FLORIDA (-130)

The Reds winning streak improved to 4 in a row - all on the road, as Cincy hung on for the 7-5 win last night in the weekend opener at Florida. Don't look for the Reds winning ways to continue, as Kyle Lohse has not been anywhere near the pitcher on the road that he has been at home.
At home Lohse is a respectable 3-3 with a 2.67 ERA, but on the road he is just 2-8 with an ERA of 6.53. His most recent road start 5 days ago saw the Mets plate 5 in just 5 innings of work.
We look for Florida to chase him early, as the Marlins do have some decent pop in their lineup with Cabrera, Ramirez, Uggla, and Willingham leading the way.
Scott Olsen is off a home win over Washington that improved his record at Miami to 5-2 for the year.
Cincinnati is still just 21-29 on the road, and were only 17-29 on the road prior to their recent 4-game tear. Look for the Reds to end up on the short side tonight.

Play on the Marlins.

4♦ FLORIDA

Dave Cokin
Take "(903) CIN Reds"

Scott Olsen is back from his two game suspension following yet another dugout meltdown by the high strung southpaw. Olsen has a ton of talent but his emotions continue to cause him issues and there's no doubt in my mind this is a major contributing factor to his tendency to look great at times and then simply fall apart when something goes awry. I think the act is wearing thin with his teammates as well as management. The Reds have played much better ball since the managerial change and picked up a nice comeback win Thursday. Kyle Lohse has some seriously ugly road numbers, but I like the situation for Cincy and I'll give them a play here

Jim Feist
Take "(904) FLA Marlins"

Kyle Lohse not finding the same success with the Reds as he found with the Twins. Lohse is not only 5-11 on the season, but he's just 2-8 on the road with a 6.53 era. Meanwhile, Scott Olsen of the Marlins continue to enjoy success at home. Olsen is 5-2 at home with a 4.37 era. In addition, the Marlins have won seven of the 10 starts Olsen has made at home. If Olsen can keep the fiery personality of his under control that got him a two-game suspension by the club this week, we think he can get his 8th win of the season.

Play On: Oakland w/Blanton vs Bedard

Note: A's send steady Joe Blanton to the mound at home against the Orioles Eric Bedard. Home is the key here, where Blanton sports a 2.19 ERA this season (as opposed to a 4.50 ERA on the road). With Bedard's 4.00 ERA on the road nearly two full runs higher than his home ERA this year, look for Bedard to drop to 0-7 lifetime in his team starts against Oakland tonight.

BELMONT PARK Race #FIVE (5:00 PM Eastern)

(# 7) PURE BUSINESS - Working swiftly for the Tony Dutrow barn for her first race since December 6. She displayed noticeable improvement in each successive start last season at two. Filly has no doubt grown and matured a bit, and she is a serious wire-to-wire threat. Barn is close to an incredible 40% with runners returning from three months or more on the shelf.
(# 5) Astoria Sweetheart - She makes her second start since the Bob Klesaris halter, and the third off a seven-month layoff. Ran well in two tries against special weights at two, she was sent to the sidelines in October. "Fronts" went on in last, a race that was her poorest of four to date. Prado stays put here.
(# 3) Jabeesh - She finished second last out at this level which was her first start with Lasix. Filly who won that day, Kitty Nip, ran second in a stakes quality allowance next out. Good work on July 14.

The Yankees may put up a decent run total, but not enough to outweigh the damage Mussina should do. The Under is 5-0 in Mussina's last 5 starts as a home favorite. The Under is 16-5-2 in Mussina's last 23 starts as a favorite. The Under is 4-1 in Yankees last 5 home games. This one easily stays under the Total. Take the Under 10.5 runs.

Rogers is 31-7 against the money line in home games when playing against a bad team (Win Pct. 38% to 46%) since 1997. The Royals are just 10-33 against the money line vs. a starting pitcher who gives up 0.5 or less HR's/start over the last 2 seasons. Rogers is 22-5 against the money line as a favorite of -110 or higher over the last 2 seasons and 25-3 against the money line when the total is 9 to 9.5 over the last 2 seasons. CUBS +110

The Cubs survived a shootout yesterday and escaped with the win. They are also coming off back-to-back strong offensive performances and teams in this spot historically fare well. Marquis takes the hill for the Cubs and he has been solid at home with his 3.90 ERA. Webb is on the mound for the D-backs and this explains why the odds are where they are. However, it is the Cubs who hit righties best in this one and with the hot bats!! With Arizona struggling on the road and just 1-8 in their L9 in this spot we are running with the Cubs!! (Marquis must pitch)

OAKLAND -110

***PLAY OF THE DAY***

The A's just broke their long losing streak and history shows that teams in this spot (off a 5+ game losing streak) perform extremely well in their next game!! At home teams in this spot are 23-12 this season!! We realize Bedard is on the mound for the O's and he is in terrific form!! However, over the past 7 season the A's have been one of the more profitable teams when facing lefties including this season where they are above .500 and positive units again!! The O's have struggled on the road this season and so has their ace who, despite his 5-1 road record, has a 4.00 ERA as opposed to a 2.22 ERA at home!! Always scary to go against a terrific lefty like Bedard but we have history on our side and a soft line that virtually begs you to take him. Not us!! We are running with Oakland today!!

Play On: LA Angels -125 (Lackey/Silva) Listed

LA Angels are 40-23 last 3 years on the road when the total is 8 to 8 1/2. LA Angels are 161-115 since 1997 when playing on Friday. LA Angels are 57-25 since 1997 and 4-0 this year after shutting out their opponent. Minnesota is scoring only 4.5 rpg at home this year. Lackey is 12-5 with a 2.98 ERA overall this year, 7-2 with a 2.39 ERA on the road this season and 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA his last 3 starts. Silva is 1-2 with a 6.88 ERA his last 3 starts. Lackey has a 3.63 ERA overall vs Minnesota since 1997. We'll recommend a small play on the LA Angels tonight! Thanks and good luck, Rocky

Today's MLB Picks

Houston at Pittsburgh

Roy Oswalt has not been his usual unhittable self as the Astros ace is just 1-2 with a 5.31 ERA over his last five starts and an even worse 2-5 with a 6.59 ERA on the road this season. As a team, Houston continues to struggle and is 3-8 in its last 11 games. The Pirates haven't been much better (4-7 in last 11, including six straight losses). But Pittsburgh starter Tom Gorzelanny continues to put up solid numbers (3-0, 3.81 over last five starts; 4-2, 3.10 at home). The Pirates look like a good home underdog pick (+122) today according to Dunkel, which has Pittsburgh favored straight up by 1. Dunkel Pick: Pittsburgh (+122). Here are all of today's games.

Vegas Experts Tip of the Day

Tampa Bay Devil Rays at New York Yankees
Friday, July 20th, 7:05 P.M. EDT

The sight of the D'Rays should be enough to get the Yankees' bats rolling. The clubs have gone over the total in 28 of the last 44. Tampa starter Jackson has a 7.17 ERA. TAMPA BAY is 21-10 OVER vs. an overused bullpen that pitches more than 3.2 innings per game this season. NY YANKEES are 13-2 OVER vs. a terrible bullpen whose ERA is 5.50 or worse over the last 2 seasons.

It means he is using an angle that has never lost. It could be that starting pitchers with the first name Tom and born in March of 1982 have never lost in Oakland on Friday night. Some stupid shit like that and the touts will say its an angle thats never lost. I don't know what the angle is though. Maybe somebody can find out.

friday 6 strong plays
<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1d1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->tigers -1.5 runs strong
brewers strong
brewers over 9 runs strong
seattle strong
mets over 8.5 runs strong
pitt under 8.5 runs strong

MILWAUKEE (Suppan) -135 over SAN FRANCISCO (Lowry)

The NL Central appears headed for an exciting finish,
with both the Cubs and the Brewers playing very well
right now (Milwaukee 5-2, +$225 since the break).
The Brewers have excelled vs. lefties, especially here
at Miller Park in night games (11-4, +$565, with 6.1
runs per game), so they should polish of Noah Lowry
and the hapless Giants without much difficulty. SF is
only 1-6 since the break (-$525 with 3.7 runs per
game and a 6.16 ERA among starters), and and vs.
righties on the road they're a dismal 11-22 (-$920).
Jeff Suppan may not be the best the Brewers have
to offer, but Milwaukee is 7-2 in his home starts
(+$485)

It means he is using an angle that has never lost. It could be that starting pitchers with the first name Tom and born in March of 1982 have never lost in Oakland on Friday night. Some stupid shit like that and the touts will say its an angle thats never lost. I don't know what the angle is though. Maybe somebody can find out.

probably the big angle is that Oakland have never lost when Bedard has started against them...

Erik Bedard (L) Previous Starts vs. Oakland

I don't buy Marc Lawrence's plays but I do visit his website alot 'cause I'm into Systems. Every Friday, he offers a "friday's are free" Perfect situation play that has never lost. And you're indeed right, the "never lost" situation is the fact that Eric Bedard has NEVER beaten the A's (0-7 lifetime).

According to the Sports Monitor, he's currently ranked #3 in the country in baseball Rate of Return for the year. I don't spend any money on his website, but I repect a guy that handicaps from a strict technical angle using Systems instead of silly team trends (particularly in Football and Basketball).
