Just because Pete Rose or a ref, or any college kid gets "CAUGHT" fixing a game, doesn't mean it doesn't happen every day. Maybe not every game but many games are fixed . All you need to do is be on the right side thats all. If you think Michael Jordan or Charles Barkley never "BET" on a basketball game you are crazy. Just imagine being down 50 or $100,000 for the week as these guys bet heavy, you know damn well they would bet on or against their on team to get some cash off that figure. OR throwing the game for their book to knock off some cash on their figure. Bottom line is their are much more gamblers who "PLAY" and "OFFICIATE" sports than one knows. And this has been going on for "YEARS", its who gets caught and who doesn't. NOW with the "FEDS " watching closely on sports, you might get a little less obvious "FIXED" games. Some of the NFL games last season was so obvious. Go back and watch Michael Jordan play most of his games, sometimes he gives 110% and sometimes 50%. How about the Lakers when Kobe doesn't even shoot the damn ball most of the game. We all know Kobe is a gunner and when he shoots much less its not because he isn't open its because he was told not to.

This subject comes up every six month or so and there are more or less two factions -- the yes it's all or almost fixed and the no it's not fixed except in very rare cases factions.

Please anybody who gets involved in this thread please show some courtesy to other posters even if they disagree with your particular stance on the subject, lets not turn this into a namecalling thread (something that has been happening around here too often lately)..

Thank you, wilheim

You are so correct Wil. This REF has officiated over 700 games including playoffs in his 13 year carreer. One can only speculate as to how many were "FIXED". You know he didn't start gambling this year! He played Varsity baseball at Villanova so you know he was a hands on player as well. My guess is hes been gambling since childhood and for the past 13 years he has done "Something" to change an outcome or 2.

You'll also see an offshore book named as well in this indictment. His partners in this "fixed" game will be watched with an extra eye next season.

Off the top of my head in the last 10 or so years:

BC (baskets and football, may go back further)
Arizona St. hoops (Hedake)
Fresno hoops (Herren years)
Florida St. and Arena League (Adrian McPherson)
Northwestern (Pendergast)
German soccer (Hoyzer)
Italian Serie A (numerous)
Boxing (Lewis-Holyfield I, Griffin-Toney, many others)
horse racing (numerous jockeys)

Just throwing these out there.

Oh NO!!!
You mean my studying of things like 'Atl. is 7-1 when facing a Eastern Conference opponent with a losing record in the 2nd of 3 or more road games with the total over 180 on Tuesdays has been useless'!!!!
Say it ain't so....

How do salaries compare as per game rate?

Umpires in mlb
Refs in the nba
Refs in the nfl

Talking about per game --unless one league pays something like health insurance or what about travel costs etc....all figured in the per game salary of any official.

I really think it's rare for the "fix", but the press from it is a sure KILLER and for good reason.

There's always next year, like in 75, 90-93, 99 &

Since we're all opening up, I think I owe the RX community an apology for my involvement in fixing matches ...

in 2001 some of the RX Wrestlemania stories were fixed. My match with OutAndUp was 100% fiction .. even though I would have kicked his ass anyway, just ask me.

I will not name names, but one of the internets most popular mods and my former fictional tag team partner is highly speculated to have been involved.

Jagr was certainly under suspicion at one point. And the whole Tocchet thing makes Nhl look iffy.

NFL refs make much less and there's been the arguement for yrs the NFL nmeeds to hire full time officials not weekend warriors...I'm not saying any NFL game is fixed by refs just answering the question.

That Super Bowl farce 2 yrs ago, I will never forget how poorly it was officiated one way.

FLA FSU about 4 yrs ago where FSU got every call by ACC refs
Pitt Super Bowl Win
FSU reg season game I feel they threw back in 2002

these three games were beyond belief and are the three that stand out the most to me...and come to think of it cost me a pretty penny

Florida St.(Adrian McPherson)

I immediately think of Florida St when this topic comes up. I still remember watching the NC State/FSU game where McPherson blatantly threw two red zone interceptions and I believe he fumbled on another key drive. FSU was a big public play that day and I remember many people going down in flames.

Basically Tennis is a game played for exercise or for the wealthy or both. Have no idea about the fix--you may be right. It's a one vs one game.

But I don't compare it to mlb nfl or the nba. Just a wild hunch.
