Michael Mizrachi Signs With Planet Hollywood

He'll Give Lessons and Play in Tournaments at the Casino
Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, the 2006 Card Player Magazine Player of the Year, has signed on with Planet Hollywood as an in-house poker celebrity.
Mizrachi can be found in Planet Hollywood’s poker room every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6:30 p.m., where he will give 30-minute poker lessons for guests and visitors to Planet Hollywood. Then, a 7 p.m. $480 tournament will take place. The person who knocks out Mizrachi will receive his buy-in as a bounty.

If Mizrachi makes an early exit, he will stick around for more poker lessons. He will also be available for individual poker lessons and appearances at corporate events.

sounds like he must be pretty much broke probably from his rumoured craps problem. Based on his schedule how is he going to be able to play the big tournaments?

Michael and Lily are good people and he's likely looking out for the family. Hope he is an asset to this revived property.

the #s I heard with Grinder's Planet deal are mind-blowing

that would explain then why he doesn't need to play many tournaments. Isn't he also one of the bigger stakers of other players on tour?

A small poker room doesn't add much value to the casino's bottom line. Let's be realistic here, at best they could pay him $100k a year. He's not going to bring in "whale" pit players.

what are they? Congrats, by the way, on your WSOP run. That was fun rooting for you.

dont remember exactly, just that it blew my mind and I didnt understand how PH could get that money back out of the deal. The #s I heard would pay him way more than 100k a year that is mentioned below, but I have no idea if the #s i heard were legit or not

I still find it hard to believe that a 10 table poker room, at least that's what it says on their website would pay someone more that a $100K a year to drum up business. A poker table generates about $90 an hour in rake and you have to pay a dealer, feed a dealer and give him health insurance. It is sheer stupidity to pay someone big money to generate action in a very modest poker room.

Maybe they think that the deal will force Mizrachi to play craps at their casino. They can make that money back in a couple of hours.

you gotta remember that the rebeue that they hope to gets isnt just from the direct poker room take....plenty of people will wander into there in hopes of seeing "the grinder" and therfore will drop money at the tables, hotel rooms, restraunts, etc.

Spoke with my buddy thats a poker dealer at Planet Hollywood.. He said the Mizrachi experiment failed miserably.. The $480 tourney is way too much loot for your typical PH clientele, and 'the grinder' generated very little foot-traffic during his 1st week there.. I guess he's still their "ambassador" or whatever, but thats it

No surprise to me, he doesn't have the Q rating of a Phil Helmuth or a Dan Negreanu. There are way too many poker rooms on the strip concentrated in a very small area, Bellagio, CP, Venetian, Mirage, TI, Wynn, Bally's.

As reported earlier this week, 2006 Card Player Player of the Year Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi signed with Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino, but changes have already been made to Mizrachi’s scheduled tournaments.
Mizrachi will host his tournaments six days a week instead of the previously scheduled three days a week. Also, the buy-in has been reduced from $580 to $120.
The tournaments begin at 7 p.m. every night except Saturday. Players start with $5,000 in chips and the blinds go up every 30 minutes. The player who eliminates Mizrachi is awarded $300 in promotional chips that can be used in the cash games. If Mizrachi does not play, the winner of the tournament will receive the promotional chips on top of the first-place prize.
Mizrachi also holds training sessions in a Q-and-A format just before the start of his tournaments at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
