Game: Chicago Cubs at St. Louis (8:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: Chicago Cubs -134

Everyone wondered what was wrong with Carlos Zambrano after he completed May with an ERA of 5.63. He has answered those questions. Zambrano has been the top pitcher in baseball since then. He has worked 63 innings yielding just 30 hits, opponents hitting just .155 against him, and his ERA has been 1.43. It has vaulted him to the NL lead in wins. What may be even worse news for St. Louis is that when he was pitching poorly he held them to 1 run in 7 innings earlier in the season. Kip Wells has pitched much better, but it hasn't helped to put the Cardinals in the win column. The Cards are a woeful 4-17 in his starts. The Cardinals have allowed 10 runs or more in 12 of their 50 losses and the Cubs are playing over .600 baseball for the past 40 games

July 24, 2007 -- The Hondo Retirement Fund took another hit last night when Westbrook was slapped around by the Sawx to goose the deficit to 605 dobys.

Today, he'll go back to Bonderman, Jeremy Bond erman. Ten units on the Tigers over the Chisox.

Marc Lawrence
San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies

Play On: San Diego w/Young

Padres take on the Rockies in Game Two of this series in Colorado behind Chris Young, who has won his last five starts in a row in this series and has also never lost a team start in this park in his MLB career (3-0). With Young in commanding KW form with 3 walks and 23 strikeouts in his last three starts, look for San Diego to improve to 12-4 away in Game Two of a series this evening.

Vernon Croy
Tampa Bay Devil Rays vs. Baltimore

1 Unit - Take Tampa Bay -102, Very good value here tonight since Tampa has the superior pitcher on the mound. Kazmir has pitched solid over his last 3 starts with an ERA of just 2.50. Cabrera has been anything but solid this season with an ERA of 5.93 at home and Tampa is hitting .324 as a team while averaging 5.9 rpg over their last 7 games

Vegas Experts
Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies
Tuesday, July 24th, 7:05 P.M. EDT

Bergmann has not pitched well of late but has had some good efforts on the road versus tough teams. Kendrick has been solid since joining the rotation and sports a 3.51 ERA. He does not face a killer lineup here in the Nats who are 7-1-1 Under their last nine games. Supporting angles say to Play Under - All teams where the total is 10 or higher (PHILADELPHIA) - after 2 straight wins by 6 runs or more against opponent after scoring 4 runs or less 3 straight games (35-14 since 1997) and Play Under - Road teams where the total is 8.5 to 10 (WASHINGTON) - after 2 straight games where they stranded 5 or less runners on base, with a hot bullpen whose ERA is under 2.00 the last 5 games. (69-29 over the last 5 seasons.)

Play on: Under

Robert Ross
Boston Red Sox at Cleveland Indians
Tuesday, July 24th, 7:05 P.M. EST EST

Used Boston as our Member Play last night and are coming back with the Bosox again tonight. Matsuzaka has adjusted well to his first year in the Bigs and shows a 3.57 road ERA. Sabathia has cooled some after a torrid start and shows an 8.47 ERA his last three. In addition BOSTON is 79-65 against the money line in road games vs. AL teams scoring 5.2 or more runs/game in the second half of the season since 1997 while SABATHIA is 21-33 against the money line in home games vs. teams outscoring opp by 0.5 or more runs/game on the season since 1997. (Team's Record)

Play on: Boston

Karl Garrett
Yankees (-240) at KANSAS CITY

As expected the Yankees have started to kick things into the next level, and last night's win was their 4th in a row on the RUN LINE.
The G-Man sees no reason they won't extend that mark tonight, as Chien-Ming Wang will be able to get his usual bevy of ground ball outs against the relatively feeble attack the Royals send to the plate.
With last night's win, New York has now taken 8 of the last 10 meetings against the Royals. 7 of the 8 wins have come by 2 runs or more.
Scott Elarton is making his first start since the middle of June, and the fact his season ERA is over 9 does not bode well against this Yankees' attack. Somehow Elarton has won his last 3 starts against New York dating back to 2005.
I just don't think Elarton is going to extend his win streak over the Yankees tonight, as New York is just in that groove right now.
Take the Yankees on the RUN LINE to continue their mastery over the Royals.

3? YANKEES -1 1/2 RUNS

Bobby Maxwell
Tampa Bay (even) at BALTIMORE

Oakland's win in Anaheim over the Angels Monday makes it two straight Bonus Play winners for us. Today we stay in the AL with a complimentary play on the Devil Rays as they visit Baltimore.
I know Tampa Bay had a miserable weekend in New York but they'll bounce back behind the pitching of Scott Kazmir (7-6, 4.02 ERA) and get a win tonight against the Orioles.
Kazmir has been outstanding in his last two outings, allowing just one earned run on seven hits in 13 innings of work. He held the Angels to one run over seven innings Wednesday in a 7-2 victory.
He faces the Orioles' Daniel Cabrera (6-10, 5.30) who is 0-2 with a 6.44 ERA in his last five starts. Last time our for Cabrera he allowed five run on eight hits in five innings of a 6-5 loss in Seattle Wednesday.
Play the D'Rays to come back strong and Kazmir to deliver a solid outing against Baltimore.

2? TAMPA BAY

Michael Cannon
San Diego (-140) at COLORADO

Take the Padres tonight as the road chalk for the win.
Chris Young will start for San Diego and he's been nearly untouchable lately. The right-hander is 9-3 with a 1.85 ERA on the year, but as incredible as it may seem he's been even better recently. Over his last three starts, Young is 1-0 with a 0.45 ERA and he's won his last five decisions.
In six career games, Young is 4-0 with a 2.65 ERA against the Rockies.
Colorado will counter with rookie Ubaldo Jimenez. The 23-year-old right-hander wasn't exactly tearing it up in Triple-A before his recall, going 8-5 with a 5.85 ERA in 19 starts. He's only up with the big club because of the injury to Jason Hirsh.
Take the Padres as Young sets the Rockies down with ease.

3? SAN DIEGO

Sports Gambling Hotline
Cubs at ST. LOUIS (+140)

The Cubs haven't lost 2 in a row in quite some time, so it will be intersting to see how they handle a little losing streak when they hit the field tonight at Busch.
Our feeling is Chicago is going to start to press a little, and we think there is nice value in backing the Cardinals tonight as the home dog.
St. Louis has shown some signs of life recently as they have won 5 of their last 8, and are off a series win over the weekend in Atlanta.
Carlos Zambrano has really turned it up a notch after a horrid start, but how much longer can he continue at this clip? We think tonight is the night Zambrano takes it on the chin.
Kip Wells may be only 3-12 on the season, but he is coming off of his best start of the season, as he shut down Florida for 8 innings in recording the win.
The Redbirds do have some offense in their attack, and if they are going to make a move in the Central Division, tonight is a good night for that to start.
We say back the Cards in the home dog role in this one.

Play on St. Louis.

1? ST. LOUIS

Dave Cokin
Take "(902) PHI Phillies"

Kyle Kendrick has nothing but wins at home for Philly, while Nats starter Jason Bergmann is winless in seven road starts this year. It's also important to note that Bergmann has still not posted a quality start since his return from the DL. You'll have to lay a price with the Phillies here, but I really think they should be about 2/1 here, so there's enough value for me to make the play.

Jim Feist
Take "Over"

Fresh off their 21 run performance against the Devil Rays, the Yankees get more fresh meat now in the person of Scott Elarton of the Royals. Elarton only brings a 9.18 era into this contest in eight starts this year. Does it get worse? You bet, his last two starts he's allowed 11 earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. Everyone on the Yankees squad will be wanting in this game and we wouldn't be surprised to see the Yankees get this game OVER all by themselves. We don't even care who's on the mound tonight for the Yankees. Sit back, enjoy the show and play the OVER!!!

Guaranteed Pick: Jimmy The Moose

Game: Los Angeles Dodgers at Houston Astros Jul 24 2007 8:05PM
Prediction: over
Reason: The Dodgers have played over the total in 7 of their last 9 road games. The over is 11-2-2 in their last 15 games played on grass. Over their last 32 games the over is 22-8-2. Game: Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Baltimore Orioles Jul 24 2007 7:05PM

Prediction: Baltimore Orioles

Reason: At 7:05 pm, our complimentary selection is on the Baltimore Orioles over Tampa Bay, as Birds starter Daniel Cabrera is a perfect 4-0 lifetime (in 8 appearances) vs. the D-Rays, with a 3.56 ERA. Cabrera's mound opponent will be lefty Scott Kazmir, and Kazmir's struggled against the O's, with a 5.01 career ERA (in 8 appearances), including a dismal start earlier this year in which he gave up 6 hits and 4 walks in 4 innings pitched.

Take Baltimore. Good luck, as always,
Al McMordie.

SCOTT SPREITZER SCOTT'S MLB AFTERNOON DIVISIONAL GAME OF THE MONTH!

(917) DET Tigers vs (918) CHI White Sox
Game Starts at July 24 2007 11:05 EST
Take (917) DET Tigers
Detroit owns a powerful lineup in most situations, including afternoon road games. The Tigers are 8-4 in this spot, scoring an average of 6 RPG. The average run total should be more than enough with Jeremy Bonderman on the hill. The righty has made six starts at U.S. Cellular in his career. He owns a fantastic, 0.99 WHIP with a .205 BAA. When Bonderman takes the bump the Tigers are 7-2 on the road, 13-4 as a favorite, and 5-2 in day action. They've won Bonderman's last six away starts where he's allowed just 15 ER & 42 BR in 37 2/3 IP. That's a 3.58 ERA & 0.98 WHIP. And while Detroit is 21-11 in day starts, producing eight-units of profit, the Sox are 15-25 in day games, losing 10.6-units. Gavin Floyd is making his second start of the season for the southsiders. He got punished by Minnesota and I expect more of the same today. The righty owns a lifetime 7.08 ERA & 1.76 WHIP to go along with a .292 BAA in 25 appearances, including 20 starts. The Tigers are my Afternoon Div. GOM. Thanks! GL! Scott

SCOTT SPREITZER SCOTT'S TKO BEATDOWN LEADS HIS 2-FOR TUESDAY MLB GUARANTEE!
(909) CHI Cubs vs (910) STL Cardinals
Game Starts at July 24 2007 17:10 EST
Take (909) CHI Cubs
My TKO is a play on the Cubs on Tuesday. Carlos Zambrano hit catcher Michael Barrett so hard, he landed in San Diego as a member of the Padres. Since then, Zambrano has been spectacular. In his last seven outings, the hard-throwing righty owns a 1.49 ERA & 0.89 WHIP. He'll work his magic again, facing a Cardinal lineup that's scoring just 4.1 RPG in 22 home night games against right-handers. Kip Wells counters for the defending champs tonight. The Cards are 3-14 in his 17 starts (1-6 home) this season, losing 12.2-units. They're also 2-8 when he's priced as a dog and 2-9 in his evening starts. With Derek Lee bolstering the Cub lineup with his return, look for Zambrano to get more than enough run-support tonight. The Cubs are my TKO Beatdown on Tuesday. Thanks! GL! Scott.
927) BOS Red Sox vs (928) CLE Indians
Game Starts at July 24 2007 16:05 EST
Take (928) CLE Indians
My 5* Hammer is a play on the Indians on Tuesday. The Tribe have been outstanding in home night games against righties this season, averaging 6.9 RPG in 24 tries! That's bad news for "Dice-K" who was smacked around Fenway in his only start against Cleveland. This is also not one of Boston's better situations. They're actually three games below .500 in road night games against lefties where they plate just 4.2 RPG. Sabathia goes for the Tribe tonight. They're 11-2 in his 13 home starts this season where he owns a fantastic WHIP of 1.17 to go along with a strong ERA. Cleveland is 4-0 when he starts against AL East opponents this season and they're 13-3 in his 16 night outings. The Indians are a healthy, 34-15 at home while the Sox are 1-4 in Matsuzaka's last five road starts. We'll back the Indians as our 5* release on Tuesday. Thanks! GL! Scott.

free pick926 TOR / 925 MIN Under 9
Analysis:
Yesterday's game managed to find its way above the number. However, the UNDER remains a healthy 7-2 the last nine times the Twins took the field AND an even better 7-1-1 in Toronto's last nine games. This should prove to be another relatively low-scoring affair. Both starters come off quality outings against top tier offenses. McGowan held the surging Yankees to four hits and two runs through seven innings in his last start, a 3-2 victory. Meanwhile, Baker held the hot-hitting Tigers to three runs through 6 1/3 innings, en route to a 4-3 loss. Prior to that, Baker limited Oakland to five hits and two runs through six complete innings. That game also stayed below the number with a final score of 6-2. Including those results, the UNDER has gone 8-3 in Baker's 11 starts for the season. That includes a 4-1 mark on the road. Baker has also seen the UNDER go 2-0 in his two starts vs. Toronto, a 2-1 win and a 4-3 win. The Jays have seen the UNDER go 13-2 as home favorites in the -125 to -150 range. In case the line dips below that mark, it's worth noting that they've also seen the UNDER go 4-2 when playing at home with a line ranging from +100 to -125. Consider a play on the UNDER

Game: Los Angeles Dodgers at Houston Astros Jul 24 2007 8:05PM
Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers
Reason: The Dodgers have won 7 of their last 11 games. Los Angeles has won their last 5 road games. The Dodgers are 24-8 in their last 32 road games vs. a team with a losing record. In their last 6 games vs. NL West opponents they are 5-1. The Astros are 4-12 in their last 16 games vs. NL West opposition. Houston has dropped 5 of their last 6 vs. a team with a winning record. Jennings is on the mound tonight and Houston has lost his last 7 home starts. The Astros have lost his last 6 starts as a favorite. Play on the Dodgers +.

Alex Smart
Game: Atlanta Braves at San Francisco Giants Jul 24 2007 10:15PM
Prediction: Atlanta Braves
Reason: The west division last place San Francisco Giants prepare to take it on the chin again tonight against a Atlanta Braves team that will send one of their top hurlers Tim Hudson (10-5, 3.24 ERA) to the hill . The right hander is 4-0 in his L/5 starts along with a stingy 2.61 ERA. That?s not a good omen for a Giants team that has hit under the Mendoza line at home this season with a .249 BA. With the Giants sending the struggling Matt Morris (7-6,4.08 ERA)to the bump, this looks to be a solid situation to back the Braves as short road chalk. The veteran Giants righty has not won since June the 11 and is 0-3 in his L/6 starts along with a bloated 8.35 ERA. Play on the Braves

Major League Baseball Chicago vs St. Louis Zambrano vs Wells Tuesday July 24th, 2007 7:05 pm est 4:05 pm pacific Line: Chicago(-140) Rating: EZ Free Winner In this contest, my money is on the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs are playing great baseball. They are now 5 games above .500 and despite being on the road, they are two games above .500 there while the Cardinals are actually below .500 at home. Carlos Zambrano has been all that and a bag of chips for the Cubs as of late. He struggled early this season but now he is in Cy Young form. The right-hander is 12-7 on the year and sports a 3.69 ERA. Decent numbers, but they only get better. On the road he is 7-2 while his ERA has gone down to 3.13 and in his last nine starts overall, the right-hander has allowed more than two runs only once. That is amazing. Kip Wells goes for the Cardinals and though he pitched a gem in his last start, that was more of an aberration than anything else. Let's not forget despite that great outing in his last start, he is still 3-12 on the year while sporting an ERA over 6.30. Chicago is playing better baseball and they have the better pitcher on the mound. Take the Cubs in this one. STEVE ZUKIEL TAKES THE CHICAGO CUBS OVER THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS AS AN EZ FREE WINNER

Play: Money Line: G1 Detroit Tigers

#917 Take Detroit –113 over Chicago (2:05 pm MLB.tv) The White Sox and Tigers will play two for the price of two this Tuesday in the Windy City. The Tigers are coming off a high scoring victory on Monday and will follow that up with another victory behind Jeremy Bonderman and his 10-1 record. Bonderman has compiled a 7-1 record over his last 10 starts, and Detroit has won 13 of his 18 starts. That is all we are concerned with is the team victory and Detroit will certainly get one today.

Jul 24, 2007 10:05 PM EDT

Play: Money Line: LAA Angels

Oakland is 6-13 in July this year. Oakland is 2-7 this year when playing against a team with a winning record in 2nd half of the season. Oakland is scoring only 4.2 rpg overall and 3.9 rpg against Righty Starters this year. LA Angels are a very nice 31-15 at home this year. Escobar is 11-3 with a 2.85 ERA overall this year, 6-2 with a 1.95 ERA at home and 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA his last 3 starts. We'll recommend a small play on LA Angels tonight! Note to all:

In starting this Daily Service play listing it was to help everyone out because someone would list it one day then nothing for two days then post again then nothing for days on end and it never had any organization to it so I took it apon myself to start a daily tread that had BOLD-ED titles and a nice flowing list of service plays.

I will not be part of this PISSING contest that has become apparent on this forum. First sds put together a great spread sheet that took much of his time and now Zuman has donated much of his time to put together a new spread sheet. This was done so you all did not waste your money on paying for picks that are worthless.

Being a hero has nothing to do with this all I ever wanted to to ws help the people of this forum, now everyday Service play treads pop up and have little to no organization to them at all.

If we can not all work together I will just send the daily tread to Zuman and be done with the whole mess that this has become.

We take time from our busy lives and family to help out and all we get is greef.

So with that being said the ball is in your court do I contuine or just stop this tread after today?

Good Luck to all,

BB

BB

I vote continue. You're threads are the best, most organized on any of the sports forums. I know I'm a new member, but I joined for the wealth of knowledge on this site and the great work that is done by the posters here. Posters like Bookie Buster. I appreciate the hard work and it is very helpful to a newb like me.

BB, the answer to stopping this thread is a big fat NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! The occasional jerkoff that comes into ur daily thread to spit some trash is usually some little piece of crap kid. And I believe this to be 100% true nowadays w/ all these children out of school with nothing to do but start some stuff somewhere in somebody's forum and get them razzled. On occasion I'll go to some of the Rx's cappers to see what they have for the day, but I barely even do that anymore. Basically, I come here for YOUR threads. I know u put alot of time into this specific one as well as your other ones and I commend u for that. Please ignore the crap. And don't stop this thread.

To all the kiddies: When playing nintendo all day gets old, here's a thought...go outside, play a sport, and make some friends. Real friends that is. Not ur "friends" who u play games online with. Actual flesh and blood ones. And stop wasting ur parents allowance.

Sds, u were spitting poetry last nite.

Larry Ness' Terrific Tuesday Total (21-7 or 75% TY with MLB totals!)
My Terrific Tuesday Total is on TB/Bal Over at 7:05 ET. The Devil Rays must be happy to have escaped Yankee Stadium. Tampa Bay started a four-game series against the Yankees on Friday with a 14-4 victory for its third win in four games. However, the team was swept in a doubleheader on Saturday, losing the opener 7-3 and the nightcap 17-5. Sunday's series finale was even uglier, as New York pounded out 25 hits, including six homers, in a 21-4 rout. However, I'm sure you've heard the phrase "out of the frying pan into the fire," before. Tampa Bay owns the worst record in the majors and has lost 20 of its last 25 games. Facing the Orioles hasn't provided much relief for the Devil Rays lately, as they've lost five of six meetings this season and 11 of the past 13. Tampa Bay also has dropped six straight at Camden Yards and 17 of 21 since the start of the 2005 season! Scott Kazmir gets the start and the left-hander has been outstanding in his past two outings, allowing one earned run and seven hits in 13 innings while striking out 13. That being said, Kazmir's road ERA is 4.72 this season and he's had NO success vs the Orioles these last two seasons. He's lasted four innings or less in THREE of four starts vs Baltimore, posting a 7.41 ERA. That's worrisome, as Tampa's bullpen ERA is the worst in MLB at 6.44 plus it owns a .309 opponents' BA. The Orioles hardly own a feared lineup but the team is averaging 5.3 RPG vs left-handers at night in Camden. As for Baltimore, the Orioles will start Daniel Cabrera. He has not pitched well in '07, posting a 5.91 ERA is 12 home starts. Tampa, like Baltimore, is not much of an offensive power, but the Devil Rays have averaged 5.2 RPG vs right-handed starters in 35 road games this year. Terrific Tuesday Total on TB/Bal Over.

Good Luck...Larry

Larry Ness' Las Vegas Insider (19-10 or 66% since May 21!)
My Las Vegas Insider is on the Chi Cubs at 8:10 ET. Chicago lost 3-0 to Arizona on Sunday to drop the final two games of the series but finished 7-3 on its homestand. The Cubs haven't lost three straight since losing a season-high six in a row (May 27-June 2), going 29-15 since to close in on the Brewers in the Central (trail by just three games). The Cubs went 3-2 while Derrek Lee (hitting .337 TY) served a five-game suspension for his role in a skirmish with San Diego on June 16. He's back in the lineup tonight and Carlos Zambrano will be on the mound. Zambrano didn't allow a run in his second straight start, giving up two hits before being pulled after five innings because of heat exhaustion in the Cubs' 12-1 win over San Francisco on Wednesday. He hasn't allowed a run in 15.2 innings dating to a 6-2 loss at Pittsburgh on July 8. He's 7-2 in his last nine outings, allowing two ERs or less eight times, while posting a 1.86 ERA in that stretch! Zambrano is 6-4 with a 2.43 ERA in 17 games (16 starts) against St Louis, including a 5-0 mark with a 1.38 ERA in his last eight starts against the Cardinals dating to 2005. Kip Wells (4-12, 5.75) will take the mound for St Louis in the opening game of a seven-game homestand against the NL Central's top two teams (Milwaukee is next). Wells, looking to avoid becoming the majors' first 13-game loser, will try to post consecutive wins for the first time in 2007. He allowed two hits in eight innings of a 6-0 victory at Florida on Wednesday. However, don't be fooled by one good outing. The Cards are 3-14 in his 17 starts this year and at minus-$1,209 on the season, only San Francisco's Matt Cain (3-17 and minus-$1,666) has lost more money among MLB's starters in '07! Las Vegas Insider on the Chi Cubs.

Good Luck...Larry

Larry Ness' 15* AL Game of the Week (now 76-25 since Opening Day!)
My 15* play is on the Cle Indians at 7:05 ET. The Red Sox totaled 29 runs while winning the last three games of their home series with the White Sox and opened a seven-game road trip with a 6-2 victory over the Indians on Monday night. However, there are a number of reasons I'm going against them here. Boston starter Daisuke Matsuzaka (11-7, 3.99) is trying to work out of a rough patch in his season. After a stretch of six consecutive outings in which he yielded two runs or fewer, he's s 1-2 with a 7.31 ERA in his last three starts, failing to last longer than six innings in any of them. On Thursday against Chicago, Matsuzaka walked a season-high six in five innings, allowing three runs and two hits as the Red Sox fell 4-2. He also fared poorly in his May 30 start against Cleveland, suffering an 8-4 loss after giving up six runs and a season-high 12 hits in 5.2 innings. While Cleveland starter CC Sabathia is 1-2 with an 8.47 ERA in three July starts, he's 13-4 with a 3.81 ERA in 21 starts this year. Cleveland is 16-5 in his starts TY and at plus-$773, he's ranked 7th among MLB starters in money won. Also note that he's 9-2 with a 3.36 ERA in 13 home starts, with the Indians going 11-2 in those games. Boston is just 14-14 vs left-handers this year, including a poor 4-10 mark (minus-$905) away from Fenway, where the Red Sox have averaged just 3.8 RPG. AL Game of the Week 15* Cle Indians.

Good Luck...Larry
