playing detroit in game two on the runline (-1.5) at (+135)

normally guys reference past winners that theyve had on the site when it comes to adding credibility to a play for a given evening.

ill go the opposite direction. im going to reference a past losing play. around memorial day, i was speaking highly of virgil vazquez for the tigers after seeing him pitch for triple-A toledo a handful of times. he is normally a poised, efficient pitcher on the mound and he pounds the strike zone and doesnt walk many hitters.

well he got a spot start a month and a half ago and was summarily rocked by twins on the road. it was one of those 'egg on the face' moments for me.

but im going to stand by my opinion of this kid and give him another shot now that he is back for a second start with the tigers. ill chalk his debut debacle up to nerves and the big lights.

i really think this kid is a good pitcher and im going to take another strong stance with him tonight. it certainly doesnt hurt that chicago is throwing a weak pitcher in floyd tonight in the nightcap of the double headed. i think the tigers bats well help vazquez out.
