Don't disagree with the play at all but just trying to understand how some cappers here say that the pitcher gets good run support. Its like people think that the team says "Oh Paul is pitching today lets make sure we score a whole bunch of runs for him" or when a pitcher like Peavy or Clemens pitch they don't want to score. It is the dumbest stat and makes absolutely no sense imo
Those stats aren't from this season. Maholm is 2-1 with a 1.32 ERA in his CAREER against the Mets. He hasn't faced them this season. My point was this season he doesn't get run support. But I agree with you.. it's a dumb stat. It's not like the Pirates say ooh look Paul pitching today.. let's only score 1 run. But I do love the match up today in favor of the Pirates. Their bats are coming alive again, especially Bay who has hit 3 homers in Shea stadium the last 2 games and when he was slumping so were the Pirates. I like to see it come together today.
