Bonds, Costas trade insults....

A day after Barry Bonds called him a "little midget man who knows (nothing) about baseball," broadcaster Bob Costas said he wasn't upset with the San Francisco Giants slugger and responded with a jab of his own.

"As anyone can plainly see, I'm 5-6 1/2 and a strapping 150, and unlike some people, I came by all of it naturally," Costas said Thursday in a telephone interview.

On this week's edition of HBO's "Costas Now," commissioner Bud Selig, Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling and chemist Patrick Arnold discussed Bonds, his pursuit of Hank Aaron's home run record and suspicions that Bonds has used steroids. Schilling and Arnold said they believed Bonds had taken performance-enhancing drugs.
Bonds viewed at least part of the show before Wednesday's game against Atlanta.
"I've actually always had a pretty cordial relationship with Barry," Costas said. "I have no ill feelings toward him personally. I regard him as one of the greatest players of all time who got inauthentic boost and then became a superhuman player. I wish him no ill whatsoever."
Costas said he understood why Bonds might have denigrated him. "He's under tremendous scrutiny and some pressure. It's no big deal," Costas said. "This is a consequence of doing your job, and I've never tried to do my job in any case with the intention of calling attention to myself. I think if people watch the program, they can judge for themselves."

In Bonds' rant to reporters, he denied even knowing Arnold, who created THG, the drug known as "the clear." Arnold had told Costas he found it "pretty hard to believe" Bonds didn't know what he was taking. "I've never seen the man in my entire life," Bonds said of Arnold. "I've never heard of the man ... never."

Ha that's a great line by Costas...he's seemingly always PC and a generally nice guy too, so that makes it even better.

I don't like A-Rod, but it's gonna be sweet when he breaks Bonds' record in 7-8 years. You know A-Rod is selfish like Barry, so he'll stick around until it happens. I can't stand Barry.

Bonds is right , Who the fukk is Costas ?? Was he an x-ball player that had to quit the game because of an Injury ?? Hell no , he was a little scrawny runt who dropped out of highschool to pursue his broadcasting career; Never even played oraganized sports. A pip sqeek-geek with an opinion about everything sports related. He knows his shit about reporting at the game- don't get me wrong- but being in the locker room , being on a team of individuals ? Training and competing, He don't know shit about that. He's a wordsmith who sits on a pedestal. Now , why shouldn't he share a little peice of the Bonds publicity pie...? Everybody else wants a slice , well Costas got his crumb ( and I hope he chokes on it. )

Do you guys just see what happened there?

I said something. And then someone quoted me and then skinsraj28 quoted the post that was in response to what I said.

Dude, that puts me like 2 degrees from SkinsRaj. Can you dig that?!

I have been getting better at the popular posting forum game "Six Degrees of Skins Raj" because the concept of a small world phenomenon states that any post will be linked to poster SkinsRaj28.

Dude you have to be fvckin kidding me with this shit. WHO THE HELL CARES WHERE HE CAME FROM? Just because the guy wasn't a former all star ball player doesn't mean that whatever he says doesn't hold any substance. He is a good reporter with a lot of contacts and has worked his way up in the biz.

Honestly your line of reasoning is held by many many people and it is extremely annoying to me.

it's reasoning without any substance whatsoever. Just go to the bay area and everyone is oblivious to what the truth really is. I love Bond's response here, and usually the guilty ones have trouble making legitimate excuses for themselves.

Word, GB. That argument can basically be summarized to an elementary "My daddy can beat your daddy up".

Who cares if he's not strong or an athlete? That's the whole point of Costas response. Some people are born athletes, some use their brain. Costas has won about 20 Emmys in his feild, I think he has accomplished something in life.

FYI, not to be all over the guys cock or anything but misinformation pisses me off, he's not a high school dropout. He was a Communications major at Syracuse University for a couple years, then left for a high paying job. I'd do the same.

Bob Costas is a fukking hypocrite , He's a puppet on a string. I can't believe he's siding with Schilling on this matter in his little 3-way on his show. What a ***. You know who Bob Costas alltime Baseball hero was ?
The biggest drunk since Babe Ruth - Micky Mantle himself. Maybe if the Mick wasnt busy popping pills and washing them down with Gin half his career , it would be the great Micks record Bonds was chasing instead of Aarons , But we'll never know. And we'll also never know why Costas is picking an agenda with the Bonds issue ? Pressure - maybe ..., attention -? Probably.

Costas isn't working primetime anymore. Sure he has his HBO gig but comeon ?His Nationwide Radio show ended in 1996, His last NBA finals job was in 2000 , and 2002 his yearly highlight was the Winter Olympics. He has obviously lost work to ex-players who wanted to break into the broadcasting business .. And guess what , I happen to listen and relate when a guy who has played the game ( actually played it ) for 15-20 years , opposed to some midget geek who has never lifted a bat in life outside of signing his autograph on it.

Mickey Mantle was a severe alcoholic, dude. Being an addict is different than roiding yourself to cheat. If you're trying to compare the two. I guarentee 95% of people who were born in the era, grew up in New York City, and were into baseball thought of Mantle as a hero when they were a kid. That is nothing new.

Well , Well , Well , Looks like we got a Costas "Homer" on our hands here .. Your right , I did misread the link .. He's a college drop out , not highschool. That was misinformation , you pointed it out , I re-looked it up and now am retracting my statement that Costas dropped out of highschool because that is not the case. Thanks.

Thats fine and dandy , he was hero to lots of kids , my dad and myself included ... But what kinda of role model is Mantle in retrospect ? A drunk and a pill addict and crummy father at that ? Is he more deserving of being a hero than Bonds is to the kids of his generation because he's an addict opposed to a user ?? Did you think your post out before you wrote it ?? and if Mantle played under the media scrutiny that Bonds is faced with today , do you think his off field problems would be so well hidden ??

Maybe there's a drug Costas can take (and later deny) that will allow him to perform as a broadcaster better as he gets older instead of fading away.
