The Giants will rue the day they signed him to a $126 million dollar contract.

I wouldn't say he sucks, but DEFINITLEY overpaid for him. Why not just keep Jason Schmidt, as he said he'd stay for less money, and then get a MUCH needed bat. Either way, 7 yrs/$126M for Zito is absurd.

4 runs with 2 outs, could have had strike 3 called before any of the damage was done.

Zito will be fine next year I predict. But doesn't help my bet tonight. Great.

He will not be fine next yr. Can't get major leaguers out topping out at 85 unless you have some serious other junk. Incredible to think how good Zito was just a few yrs ago. He isn't exactly old, nor does he have an arm blowout

My god he just looks awful. The Marlins are just taking batting practice against him.

he has one problem: location.

his stuff is fine. you have just as good an idea how he'll be next year as I do. And I think he'll be fine. Will he win 20 games for the Giants? Doubtful. But I think he'll be a 13-16 win pitcher with an ERA in the mid/high 3s. Not bad. But fine.

Not old and no arm blowout = a very big positive going into the offseason.

His downfall has always been control problems...he really hasn't been a great pitcher in a few years but MLB teams continue to overpay anyone with a clue how to get people out....

What really gets me is SF had all those good teams and never really got Barry much help and then unload on Zito.... why they would at this point made little sense, obviosuly they're not going to be going to post season for 3-4 years anyway.

They paid him "ace" money. He will be behind Lincecum, Cain, and Lowry in next yr's rotation.

zito will be moyer-esque in his 30s. obviously, 'moyer-esque' isnt worthy of a 100+ million contract. but he'll be fine. he'll get 13-15 wins for the next half decade. his contract is bad, but he's not going to completely bust. frisco has a lot of good young pitcher that will provide a salary break and mitigate his contract. zito still has a quality curve and change. just a bad year for him. hudson had one of these years for atlanta before settling in and becoming ace caliber.

Hudson still reaches mid-low 90's. Big difference.

not really. sure velocity is nice. but its not the end all be all for a pitcher. glavine and moyer have certainly proven though. and to a lesser extend, david wells. hudson looked like a shell of himself 2 years ago. it looked like the braves grossly overpaid for him. now he is their de facto ace. would i rather have hudson than zito? yes, i would. but i still think zito will be fine and get 13 or so wins for the next 5 years. frisco has to get some offensive help though. they cant keep giving their pitchers (cain especially) 2-3 runs a game.

we talking about him being washed up or him being an ace? Two completely different topics.

Me = not washed up and plenty of upside still, as he is relatively young, has good stuff, and will be playing for a team that figures to only get better.
Nah I think the majority here is talking about how he is an overpaid piece of shit.

Becuase pitching has always been the Giants downfall...Year in and year out its their pitching that has major meltdowns especially the pen...Which I think is somewhat due to dave righetti(pitching coach)...Im not fond of him as the pitching coach...But hell yeah Zito was overpaid....I shook my head and thought what a joke to pay him that much when I first heard the news in offseason....Way overpaid...I don't know if Zito bounces back and pitches good next year....If righetti has anything to do with it...Fughetaboutit!...
