Should we be scared over this holdout situation? With the supposed re-emergence of Priest Holmes, could the Chiefs really just say screw you and start the season without a top 3 RB? I have him in a keeper league, and really would appreciate it if the Chiefs would fork over the money. Give LJ the money!

Anyone else a little nervous?

I'd be nervous too , especially with Preist Holmes being cleared to play. But Larry will feel the heat and sign soon , I wouldn't worry too much about it , Shit gets done in August ( most of the time.) Now if September 1st rolls around and he's still unsigned ,then your allowed to sweat your balls off.

Nothing to worry about. Priest is 34 years old and havent played for 2 years. No way Priest is back to his record scoring form. LJ is the franchise right now. With no soild QB at the helm, KC cant afford not to pay LJ unless they're just gonna give up this season.

I wouldnt worry about LJ not playing but how well he is gonna play. Considering his line is getting older and O-line players are retiring...

Yeah, last year it was Roaf and this year its Shields. Still have Waters going strong at guard.

I'd be more concerned with the Chiefs mediocre aerial attack, and the possibility that Brodie Croyle could be the starting QB.

I'm a huge LJ believer. I think he'll get his no matter who the QB is in front of him. Might not be as productive as his last two years, but the stats will still be top 5 esque.

What I'd be most concerned about is Johnson's workload. Edwards is gonna Earl Campbell this kid if he has 430 carries a year, thats fucking absurd. The last time we saw an RB get that much of the workload was Jamal Anderson for the Falcons in 98 and the very next season he blew out his knee and was never the same. If Herm doesnt seriously ease up, the same will happen to Johnson.

He better fucking sign, that's all I've got to say.

LJ is very, very important to this impotent offense

I would be more worried about the number of carries he had the last couple of years.

True, it doesn't matter who the QB in front of LJ is, but it does matter who the offensive line is in front of him and this year LJ doesn't have that. He may get a lot of yards, but he will also need a ton of carries to get those yards. A bigger contract only means more carries under Herm's regime and a fat happy LJ who will most likely be less productive once he receives that big money. I don't see LJ running with much authority like he did under Vermiel, who seemed to piss off LJ just enough to make him a fierce running back.
Holmes is only human and wants a paycheck like everyone else. 2 years out of the game combined with the serious neck injury he sustained won't allow him to unseat LJ. Everyone knows that neck injuries never really heal themselves and can last a lifetime. I'm sure he feels 100% right now, but until he receives that first real NFL hit from a player like Ray Lewis then it will back to the sidelines for poor Priest.

Football Prospectus has him the biggest fantasy bust this year. Last year's pick was Shawn Alexander.

You make a lot of good posts. I just got a trade offer pre draft for LJ (guy has LT as his keeper, would have pretty good RBs if you ask me) that would be his 2nd, 4th, 7th, and 12th round picks. I'm one spot ahead of him. I don't have a first round pick from holding onto LJ, but not a lot of people do have 1st round picks. It's a 12 man league.

It would be really dumb to give a guy LT and LJ, but should I bail pre-draft? Having 2 round 2's and 2 round 4's would give me two solid RB's and two solid WR's. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

I wouldn't do it. You will not win unless you have a top-5 rb. Offer LJ around and see if you can get a top-6 pick and a 2nd-round pick. May have to give a 4th rounder too. That would give you 3 picks in the top-24.

I would have to put in a high draft pick if I wanted a 1st and 2nd for LJ. That's a good idea though. Maybe LJ and a pick for Steven Jackson? Jackson is the safer bet to have a huge year I'm thinking...

Depends on the scoring system. You could try for Gore also (same division, no defenses in it). Maybe offer him for Willie Parker or Addai and a draft pick. I am very high on Addai and Parker.

Gore wasn't kept by the owner, kept Chad Johnson and gave up a 2nd rounder instead of giving up a 1st rounder for Gore. Scoring system is pretty much the norm. I like Parker alot too.

I would then try to get the first pick to draft Gore. If you have to get rid of LJ to do it, do it. Defenses are much better in the AFC West than the NFC West. Believe me, Addai will be the next James in Indy this year too.
