First let me say I'm a St. Louis fan and follow this team closely. But that hasn't stopped me from betting against St. Louis at the drop of a hat if I see value on the other side. To me stats are only a starting point when handicapping a game. There are a lot of intangables involved.

On paper Milwaukee looks like a slam dunk today. But this line is set very low in my opinion. First off St. Louis has been good in day games this year (17-13) and very good on Sundays (11-5). Everyone knows Milwaukee has been a bad road team all year. When St. Louis came from 6 runs down to win the first game of the double header yesterday, for the first time this year I really saw some fire in the players. They came out in the second game and looked like a different team than the one I've been watching all year. They had a spring in their step and seemed to do everything faster and with more urgancy than normal. In other words they looked hungry for a win. This game today is a HUGE game for St. Louis. Remember, this team has some young players on it but it is mainly a team of veterans.

Wells has been horrible at times this year but has been pretty good in his last two outings. If he can keep the game close through the 6th inning and turn it over to the bullpen the Cards have a good chance to win this game.

I wouldn't bet on Milwaukee today with monopoly money but I don't think that St. Louis offers enough value to take them either. If the St. Louis line got up to +125 or +130 I would take a shot with them.

I just wanted to offer my views as someone who follows this team all year as I think a lot of people will look at this game on paper and unload on Milwaukee. Just be cautious.

I see that some people are saying that Milwaukee can't afford to lose this game with the Cubs so close. Believe me, this is a much bigger game for the Cardinals than the Brewers. With a win today the Cards will feel they are right back in the race. With a loss they are pretty much out of it. No matter what happens I don't think they have the starting pitching depth to contend this year. Too many other games I like much better to risk my money on.

Pool,
You are right on with your analysis. Plus, Albert has hit over half his dingers on Sundays. Cards need this one much more than Milwaukee.

Wells pitched very good last two starts, and he was top form last outing for a win. No way I would bet Mil today.

Except for that piece of garbage Juan Encarnacion who didn't bother to slide into the plate on Rolen's double in the 7th and killed any chance of the game going over. If he slides, he's safe and there's 1 out and a runner on 3rd. It was an absolute disgrace of an effort on his part.

line is moving sharply towards brewers despite them being a strong public pick. based on that, i think the play is on stl. just my 2 cents, good luck.

I didnt realize that a ton of people are on the Brewers today...

I have been backing Gallardo from start number one. This kid is no fluke, he was a highly anticipated prospect that should be respected as a top tier pitcher already. the Brewers have their best lineup IMO out there today and should take care of business.

Your missing the point of the whole post. First, I've made money backing Gallardo this year. I know how good the kid is. He is just in a very bad spot today. I'm a Cards fan and on paper this looks like a must play on Milwaukee. What I'm saying is this isn't the slam dunk that it might appear to be on paper. Just don't get carried away on the game.

"sharps" on STL, "squares" on Mil. I bet Mil -116. Good luck!
I saw a considerable rise in my winning percentage when I stopped worrying about the sharps and squares...GL on your play, I think you are on the right side today.

I fade steam at the apex, sometimes created by "sharps", sometimes created by "squares". The beauty of this system is that you always get the best line. Those extra cents add up over thousands of bets!

did the Cards even bat in the bottom of the 3rd? I got up to make a sandwich in the middle of the 3rd and when I came back Gallardo was hitting.

cubs will choke and nobody has pitching to scare anyone. this will be a three team race unless milwaukee continues to play this poorly. remember the cards still have pujols. he's good imo.
