good discussion on the radio this morning. i think if you break it down it's mainly because the people who say that don't like the league, with a small mixture of disdain for the high paid black majority in the league. if you look at the nfl, it's way worse but it's passed off because more people like football then basketball, so then just say i don't like basketball. how many bengals have been arrested again? we laugh at it and pass it off because we like football more. it's just funny that there's this complete double standard. i think it's similar to steroids with baseball and football.

yea i agree, so people should just say we prefer football instead of saying these nba thugs. thug is a term which is incorrectly used on black players, which is why you hear about it predominantly in nfl and nba, black sports. if you look at the real definition of it though, there's as much thuggery in mlb and nhl as well.

Because many of them travel with their entourage, and many of them are their "boys" from the hood.

Guess Eddy Curry isn't one of them:

Ex-Bulls player robbed

<!-- Article's First Paragraph --> BURR RIDGE, Ill.---- Three masked robbers broke into the suburban Chicago home of New York Knicks forward Eddy Curry early Saturday, according to police.
The robbery took place a little over two weeks after Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker was robbed at gunpoint at his Chicago town house.
In the incident Saturday, the offenders restrained Curry, his wife and an employee with duct tape as they went through the house looking for valuables, according to Deputy Chief of Police John Madden.

The three robbers made off with cash and jewelry, police said. Madden refused to give more details about the robbery. No one was injured in the incident. Madden said investigators do not believe the robbery was a random incident.
Curry, 24, was drafted fourth overall by the Chicago Bulls in 2001. He was traded to the Knicks in 2005 in a deal with the Knicks, who sent forwards Tim Thomas, Michael Sweetney and Jermaine Jackson to Chicago. The deal included a first-round pick that turned into the No. 2 choice in the 2006 draft, and gave the Bulls the No. 9 pick in this year's draft.
Chicago made the trade after Curry refused to submit to a DNA test to rule out a potentially fatal heart condition.
On July 10, Walker and a relative were bound at gunpoint while multiple robbers took a car, cash and jewelry from his residence Monday evening.
Police found the vehicle abandoned in Chicago a day latter, but have not announced any arrests in the case. <!-- Start Bottom Story -->

there's no debating that there is thugs in the NBA, there are thugs in every league. what i don't get is how the nba is labeled as a thug league to some people where the nfl is the nfl when you still have the bengals arrested every week, vick, sex boat on and on. in mlb you have steroids and people intentionally throwing at people, fights. in the nhl you have people trying to kill each other with sticks, bertuzzi breaking a guys neck, and the gambling. why arn't these leagues labeled as thug leagues as well.

Because of the entourage factor.

Because of the entourage factor.

the entourage factor applies to all sports though. everybody has cronies wanting to attach themselves to them. i'm positive there is the entourage factor in the white sports as well.

I would think part of the NBA players image problem is the huge $$ thrown at them in the draft.

Bertuzzi is a thug - on the ice only. Many of the others like NBA players, many Bengals, PacMan Jones, and Tank Johnson are thugs in everyday life. Big difference.

yea i agree a lot of the kids arn't ready for the pressure of being in the nba player. like i said my only gripe is people just loosely saying oh yea the nba, them bunch of thugs, and then when we bring up the bengals, oh another one, laugh it off, then when we bring up mlb oh yeah well that 95 heater to the head, he shouldn't have showed him up last time, and oh yea, hockey fighting is apart of the game, thats why we love it. but when we bring up nba, those damn thugs i don't want to watch them.

They're still scrapin him off my stucco.

Of course the NFL is going to have more thugs/criminals in terms of quantity. Their teams have a 53 man roster opposed to 12.

However, the percentage is higher in the NBA.

You have two issues going here. What happens on the court/field/ice is totally different than what happens off the field. People can overlook the on-field stuff. Money is one of the biggest contributors and who makes the most - NBA players.

is that an assumption or do you have some statistics showing the number of basketball players arrested. off the top of my head, the palace brawl is the only notable incident, might be something else i can't remember.

ive got to head out for a bit, but I'll try and do some research on the number of nba players arrested. i think it's a popular opinion that a lot of nba players are arrested but I've never seen statistics to back that theory up. i might be wrong, somebody else might have something.
