St. Louis has found a new energy after the weekend series with Milwaukee. For the first time in a long, long time they are now showing signs of the Cardinals that won the World Series last year. I'm talking about attitude. When they go into a game now they KNOW they're going to win. Anybody that has ever played on a championship team in just about any sport knows exactly what I'm talking about. The players now feel they are right back in the middle of the divisional race. On the other side you have Pittsburgh. A team that is pretty much done for the year. These teams are going in opposite directions. It would not surprise me if St. Louis goes into Pittsburgh and sweeps this series. Everyone knows that the Cardinals biggest weakness is their starting pitching and their biggest strength is their bullpen. In this first game Wainwright, the Cardinals best starter, gets the call. Pittsburgh is throwing Maholm a lefthander who has been pitching very well as of late. But starting pitching is only one area to consider when handicapping a game. St. Louis is -112 and in this spot at that price I love the Cardinals. This is a 3 unit play for me which is a big play.

Browsing around this morning I see that very few people are on this game yet. That tells me that outside of the people that really follow St. Louis closely, people haven't picked up on what happened to the Cardinals this weekend. That's good for us as the lines should stay soft for awhile. This is the part of handicapping that you can't find on any stat page. The attitude and incentive a team has to accomplish a goal. As someone who has lived a life competing at everything I can tell you that these factors go a long way in determining if you win or lose. For those of you that remember me from this past basketball season, I feel the same way about this game as I did those few 7 unit SEMO games I had last year. But ALWAYS keep one thing in mind. NEVER bet more than you can afford because it is a game and anything can happen.

It is obvious you aren't familar with me. I have bet against the Cardinals more than I have bet on them this year. The first thing one needs to learn in gambling is how to take emotion out of it. I learned that many years ago. I would bet against my mother for mother of the year if I thought the edge went with someone else. There's a lot more to winning games than talent and having the best stats. Baseball is a LONG season. It's full of good and bad runs by both players and teams. Being able to identify them correctly will help you win many more games than you lose. I watch over 90% of all Cardinal games during the year. For most of the year this team has been horrible and I cashed in by picking my spots to bet against them. But I'm telling you this team changed after the first game of that double header Saturday. They now have the attitude of last years team that won the World Series. I warned people about the game Sunday when they faced one of the best young pitchers in the National League in Gallarno. All I'm doing now is letting the people that don't follow the Cardinals closely know that this is now a changed team. If you choose to ignore someone with local knowledge that's your business. I have a pretty good track record here from basketball season in providing information on my local college team. Now having said all that nothing is ever guaranteed and ANY game can lose no matter how well you have it handicapped. But believe me my view isn't slanted just because I'm a fan and the Cardinals are my favorite team.

Pool,

Agree 100%, I am Cards fan, but have made more money fading them this year.

They are on a roll right now and Wainright is their best on the hill.

I like them tonight too. Will be watching the scoreboard while at the Braves game tonight.

33 posts, and has no idea how infrequently pool sticks his neck out.......he is completely rational and level headed and bets against cards, and his analysis of semo, and cards should not be questioned ever, hes calculating and a valuable commodity whenever he posts......as infrequently as it is.....

an dyet theres always some guy who has never seen a pool post be4 that comes in and flames him.......never fails

what do u gain by making this post?

do u feel better about yerself for tellin an established vet u dont agree or cant follow his pick?

do u think with 33 posts u r telling the 10,000 other people who view this baseball board to stay away from the game because pool an established respected poster is regionally biased?

people who just joined and make posts with 30 posts arent wrong becs of their new status....but somehow comments like this always come from uninformed tourists looking to pick a fight, or piss people off....and i am...im pissed off for pool! even if hes not

IMO, there are 4 out of 5 pitchers that are automatic go against guys and Maholm is not one of them. Agree that the only reason to take the Pirates is their starter tonight but he has been getting better and better all season. too many easy wins against the bucs out there to press it tonight

Flapcapper is insulting other people as well (check McCabe's thread). He clearly has no life, so let's just ignore him.
