Have 3 grand owed to me by a bookie, he's apparently broke and claims he is going to pay me back in small increments. I find this hard to believe since he has taken 9+ months and I haven't seen a dime, so I'm really at a loss for what to do. I've pretty much written it off as a loss but I'm looking around for a couple last ditch efforts.
Looking around at some collection agency sites, some claim that they will collect on bad checks. He probably is close to broke, with only a couple hundred in his accounts right now. What if I could get him to write me a check for the 3,000, on the reasoning that I wouldn't be able to deposit it until he told me he had sufficient funds...He may write me the check, figuring that the funds will never be there, and my check would only bounce if I ever tried to deposit it, never hurting him.
Then, with check in hand, I try to deposit and watch it bounce, and turn over the bad debt to the collection agency. I would have to pay $30 for the NSF, but this would be worth it if I could get the collection agency on his ass, possibly get the money back, and fuck up his credit score in the process.
Any advice, suggestions? Obviously I'm not in great shape in this situation, which I don't need to hear again, but constructive info is welcome.
