914 SDP / 913 ARI Over 8

Yesterday's game stayed beneath the number but we should see some more offense this evening. Owings has a poor 6.92 ERA and 1.769 WHIP his last three starts and he's got an even worse 7.23 ERA and 1.741 WHIP in eight road starts for the season. Meanwhile, Wells has an awful 10.13 ERA and 2.101 WHIP his last three starts. Wells has seen six of 10 career starts vs. Arizona finish above the number, including a 10-5 "slug-fest" most recently. Additionally, we find the "over" at a profitable 13-6 this season when the Padres have played a game with an over/under line of either eight or 8.5. Consider a play on the OVER

Bonds remained at 754 homers Tuesday, going 0-for-2 with two walks and a strikeout but the Giants beat the Dodgers 3-1, their fifth win in six games. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have lost three straight and nine of 13, following a season-high five-game winning streak. Bonds is just 1-for-9 with seven walks since moving within one of Aaron's mark on Friday night. Whether he gets any hits (or HRs) tonight, I'll back the Giants here, behind rookie Tim Lincecum. The 23-year-old is 6-2 with a 3.90 ERA in 15 starts (team is 8-7), going 4-0 with a 1.34 ERA in his last six starts (team is 5-1). He had been 0-2 with a 10.61 ERA in his previous four outings, before really "finding himself." Lincecum leads NL rookies with 100 strikeouts in 92.1 innings this season and is holding opponents to a .179 average in his past six starts. Lefty Mark Hendrickson goes for LA and he's 1-2 with a 7.00 ERA in his four July starts, lasting no longer than five innings in any of those outings. Take the Giants.

Marc Lawrence | MLB Money Line

908 ATL (-145) vs 907 HOU

Play On: Atlanta w/Carlyle vs Rodriguez
Note: Braves look to Buddy Carlyle in Game Two of this three game home set against Houston's Wandy Rodriguez this evening. With Rodriguez sporting a sky-high 7.43 road ERA this season, as opposed to a 1.76 ERA at home this year, and Cralyle in fine current form with 2 walks and 12 strikeouts in his last three home starts, look for the Astros to dip to 5-11 on Wednesdays here tonight.

CARDINALS (With Looper and Armas as listed pitchers)
Take the Cardinals as the small road chalk over the Pirates tonight.
The linemaker is being very generous with this one. Trust me. The Pirates have lost 14 of 16 since the All-Star break and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get better any time soon.
St. Louis has won four straight and they shouldn’t have any troubles stretching it to five tonight.
Tony Armas Jr. will start for the Bucs tonight, taking the place of an ineffective John Van Benschoten. The problem with that is Armas was sent to the bullpen for not producing earlier this year.
The Cards will start Braden Looper and to be honest with you they could throw batting practice today and I’d still side with them.
Yes, the Pirates are that bad right now.
Looper has beaten the Bucs in both of his starts against them this year, posting a 0.69 ERA in the process.
Take the Cardinals at this gift of a price as they beat the Pirates at PNC Park tonight.

5 Dime

REDS (With Arroyo and Lannan as listed pitchers)
Take the Reds tonight for the road win over the Nationals.
I have a feeling after making it through the trade deadline without any movement, Adam Dunn and Ken Griffey Jr. will approach this game a little more focused than they have been lately.
With those two relaxed it will only help starter Bronson Arroyo tonight.
Arroyo has pitched well lately but hasn’t translated it into the win column. He has allowed three runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts while pitching at least six innings in 10 consecutive outings.
John Lannan will make just his second major league start and he was less than impressive in his debut.
Take the Reds as they grab the road win.

RED-HOT BIG AL'S 82.3% AFTERNOON BLOWOUT WINNER

At 3:35pm, our selection is on the Detroit Tigers over the Oakland Athletics. It's been a very disappointing season for Tigers veteran lefthanded starter Nate Robertson. After his stellar performance in the playoffs last season, Robertson looked like a perfect breakout candidate for 2007. Robertson finished the 2006 season with thirteen wins and a excellent ERA of 3.84, and last year was the fourth in a row that he had lowered his ERA. He was at his best when it mattered most: September and October, when he put up an ERA of 2.76. At only 29 years old, Robertson is still in that age range where he could turn it around and have a break out second half if of 2007 and once again be a valuable asset to his team in the playoffs, as it appears the Tigers will be in postseason again. And he has to be feeling good about the way his team is playing around him and especially the way they have played against Oakland over the past couple of sesaons. In the last ten games between these two squads dating back to July of last season, the Tigers are 8-2. Robertson also has to be feeling good about the fact that he is going up against a rookie lefthander for the A's named Dallas Braden who is 1-6 on the season with a 5.53 ERA. Braden's only win was in his first start back on April 24 and since then he has lost six straight. But the biggest reason Robertson has to be feeling good about his chances this afternoon is that the Tigers are absolutely murdering lefthanded pitching, hitting .305 as a team vs. southpaws. Take Detroit.

Analysis: STAN'S BETTING 2 DIMES on FLORIDA

Florida dropped the opener last night but looks to get revenge tonight as they send Byung Kim to the mound who looks to extract some revenge of his own as he gets to face Colorado for the first time since they traded him earlier this year. Kim has given up 2 runs or less in 4 of his last 5 games. TAKE FLORIDA as STAN'S REVENGE BIG BET OF THE WEEK and make them a DOUBLE DIME PLAY.

Analysis: Glavine pitched well last night but couldn't secure win No. 300, as the Brewers beat the Mets 4-2 in 13 innings. Milwaukee has lost 14 of its last 19 on the road but here in Miller Park, the Brewers are 37-17. At plus-$1,453 in their home games this year, no team in MLB has won more money for its backers than Milwaukee. With Dave Bush (tonight's scheduled starter) being forced into action last night (pitched the 13th inning and got the win), Claudio Vargas takes the hill. He will NOT however, be on "short rest," as the Brewers were off on Monday. Vargas is having a career season for the Brewers, going 9-2 with a 4.15 ERA. Milwaukee is 15-3 in his 18 starts, including a perfect 10-0 here at home. At plus-$1,271, he's the biggest "moneymaker" among this season's 254 pitchers! The Mets will send Oliver Perez and the lefty will face a Milwaukee team that's 16-7 at home vs left-handed starters, including 12-5 in night games, where the Brewers are averaging 5.8 RPG. Now Perez has been solid for the Mets this season (9-7, 2.84), but I still don't understand how they could open the small favorite? At Miller Park with Vargas (at least for this year!) on the mound, the Brewers should be favored over ANY team and ANY opposing pitcher! Oddsmaker's Error on the Mil Brewers

Does anyone have Hondo? Need to fade.

HONDO'S BATTLE ROYAL

August 1, 2007 -- Hondo made a Monster move on the deficit last night, scoring beautifully with the Birds in Fenway to slash the number to 515 demeters.

Tonight, with Bannister on the slab, he expects the Royals to slide past the Twins. Ten units.

Thanks! He's won 3 out of 4 so I look for a big Twins win tonight.
