Washington U 8.5 -105 ($105)
I like Under in this spot, because I think both of these pitchers are are the types of guys that should excel in these particular match-ups. While Lannan did not looking dazzeling in his debut against the Phillies, there are some major factors that can be positives from that outing. While it may be hard to take much from 4.1 IP and 4 ERs, Lannan was able to force the Phillies into a 3:1 Groundball ratio. He also only walked one batter in the game. Lannan is just the kind of pitcher I would expect to give the Reds a tough time. The Reds have a .242 average against lefties this year, and all of their offense pretty much comes on HRs. Put them in a large ballpark against a left that can keep the ball on the ground, and this should be good for National fans. Opposing Lannan is Bronson Arroyo, who has been great in recent outings. Posting a WHIP around 1 and an ERA under 2, Arroyo had nice performances against both the Braves and the Cubs. The Nationals are by far the lowest scoring team, and a hot pitcher like Arroyo could very well put out a masterful performance. The Nationals are only hitting .224 against right-handed pitching in their last 10 ball games. I love the big park, and love it even more when the wind is blowing in from left-field. Rick Reed has gone under in 10 of his 17 games behind the plate, and his 63.5 strike ratio leds me to believe both pitchers will be getting the corners.
St. Louis Cardinals -123 ($123)
Mr. Momentum is rolling right now. Throw in the fact that Armas is 0-4 in games umpired by Randy Marsh. The Pirates are 1-7 in the last 8 games Marsh has done for them. Pujols is amazing, and they should also have Edmonds back in the line-up. The Pirates line-up only gets wrose without Nady.
Philadelphia Phillies +134 ($100)
Hill is no longer a mystery, and I faded him to a victory with the Reds. The Cubs dont hit lefties well as everyone knows, posting a .245 average this season. While Hill has been pretty decent in his last 3 starts statistically, his numbers can be a bit decieving. Giving up 3 BBs for his last 3 starts on average is not the kind of numbers a pitcher at Wrigley wants to see. I know I sound like a broken record , but HIll STILL cannot get his breaking ball for a strike. Hitters STILL arnt chasing it, and he is getting himself in to a bunch of jams because of it. In his last start he very well could have given up 5 ERs if Jones doesnt run down a ball deep in the gap. The Cubs offense thrives when Soriano, Lee, Theriot, and Ramirez are hitting the ball. Those are the guys that get the Cubs offense going.
Career Numbers vs. Moyer:
Soriano: 8 for 41 (.195) 4 HRs ~ Soriano only hits solo HRs lately, so if he gets one of those it shouldnt be the end of the world.
Ramirez: 0-5 (.000)
Theriot: 1-6 (.167)
Lee: 0-0 ~ Moyer is not an easy guy to hits your first time. Slow, slow, slower isnt exactly the type of pitcher that Lee excels against.
The Phillies bullpen has sparkled lately, and I think they should be able to hold it together against this Cubs team. I see them splitting this series, and it being Marshall tommorow that gets the Cubs their one more win.
Im looking to add a West coast game later on today, but dont know where I am going to go with it. Good luck to everyone, and I hope you all have a great day.
