No Guess......I Couldn't.........

While I was in The ICU Waiting Room...for my mom..............My Cousin who is Home Schooled.........had a few math problems....21 in all, and that last one had me "Stumped!"

Thanks For The Answer.........I'll Tell Him it's 1/4 Sq Feet, but The Only Problem Is.......He Has To Show How He Got The Answer.

reduce 81/144 to 9/16
so you have 4/9 * 9/16
the 9's cancel out, and the 4/16 you're left with reduces to 1/4

these math questions really make me feel like an idiot....

okay, if 2 of 4 is 50% (2 divided by 4)

then 4/9 of 81/144 must be

4/9 divided by 81/144

4/9 x 144/81

576/729 how the hell do you make this smaller?

/9 = 64/81

i must be missing something pretty obvious....

why is it 4/9 * 81/144

That is correct:

4/9 X 81/144

cancel the 9 into the 81 and the 4 into 144 and you get:

1/1 x 9/36 which is 9/36 which reduces down to 1/4

yep...in essence you're dividing the equation by 9/9, which of course is equal to 1

It might be easier to show it like this:

4 x 81
9 144

you cancel the 9 into the 81
and then the 4 into the 144

you get:

1 x 9 = 9 = 1
1 36 36 4

This should be easier to understand, I hope
